People are bitching about the bye week...

...because all the teams with a bye lost.
Is this something that concerns you?
Do you think the bye week is a good idea? And with 12 teams, how do they avoid it? Is this just a ploy to move to a 16 team playoff?

I'd rather have a bye than have to play an extra game. That's just the way it goes sometimes

To be fair, half the teams that received the bye didn't really deserve it. Just based on the committee's stupid rankings

The system is broken, who really deserved a bye week?
Oregon - Yes
Georgia - Yes
ND- No, play in a conference
Texas - Probably
Penn St- Maybe
Tennessee - No
Ohio St- No
Just have a 8 team playoff and eliminate the byes.

My biggest concern is automatic bids. If a conference champion isn't in the Top 12, they shouldn't get an automatic bid.
The entire purpose of the CFP is to determine who is the best out of the top 12 teams in the country. If a conference champion isn't in the top 12, they shouldn't be in.

The byes don't bother me, but the way they are currently determined bothers me.

I think what also pisses me off is that the top 4 teams that get a Bye should get a home game instead of a neutral site game. They need to fix who qualifies for the byes and then fix it to where those teams get a home game. It's not fair that these small college towns didn't get to earn a good amount of money because they were deemed better than the rest.

No. The reason why the teams with byes list is because they didn’t deserve the bye and were the underdog. Georgia was the only surprise out of that group.

Excellent point. I agree.

Who is your top 8 this year?
You prepared to leave any 1-loss teams out??
Another problem with just 8 teams is that it could've been argued to leave OhioSt out this year after losing to Mich and they look like the cream of the crop in the playoffs.
Another problem is that despite playing ina perceived weaker conference ASU proved itself worthy of a playoff spot much more than Indiana did. But how do you take a 2-loss BigXII team over a 1-loss Big10 team?

2 team were ranked below the others for a reason but the AQ bye is lame. Also, UGA without their starting qb didnt help.

The seeding was the biggest problem, not a bye.
Would you rather play SMU and Boise State to reach the final four or a single game against Ohio State?
I'd def. take the 2 games over 1 in that scenario.

What concerns me is how much everyone seems to bitch about every single little thing. It's always been that way to some extent but sweet baby jeebus the last couple months have been absurd.

JMO but having to go play at game in less than 40-degree weather will be a problem. Even if Bama had made the 12 (and played at home) it was around 40 in T-town. Forget that home game and play these games in indoor stadiums.

Expanding the playoffs only expands the pool of teams and fanbases that bitch.
The BCS was the best system of all, produced the best, most deserving champion and it's simplicity left almost no room for bitching other than the #3 team occasionally not being happy.

Nothing football “bothers” me. I’m a MAN. IM 40.

Bye isn't really an advantage when there's a month between the games. Home field would be a much better incentive but obviously they won't consider giving up that bowl revenue. This playoff system has the worst structure of any in sports.

I agree but with the system we have Oregon,UGA, Texas, and OSU should have had the bye.

Hindsight right? They clearly didn't look like a playoff team vs Michigan.

Despite coming off a loss in the SECCG?
The bye sounds great on paper, but I don't think it gives a decided advantage. It's like this in MLB. The best teams are asked to take nearly a week off at the end of the season in MLB. fricks with your timing. Since this expanded playoff the time off has seemingly handicapped the best teams. Perhaps it was a coincidence, but I'll be interested to see what happens with the teams that earn the byes in future seasons.

The real issue is that a 12-team playoff is completely antithetical to the traditions of college football.
In spite of that, they tried to maintain those traditions, like conference champions, the bowl games, etc and integrate them into one new system. It simply doesn’t work.
If we are going to have a 12 team playoff, all games, except the Championship game, should be played on campus. Fans can’t afford to go to multiple out of town games right after Christmas.
Teams should be ranked via BCS computer 1-12 and seeded accordingly. No more committee. No more agendas. No more Cotton Bowl quarterfinals and Sugar Bowl semifinals.
Rant over.
