I went back and looked at some numbers on Wilmsmeyer, Diggs, and Souza. Suffice it to say they're not pretty at all.

In our last 4 SEC series (UK, Florida, South Carolina, and Bama), they're a combined 11-95 (I lost track of the number of strikeouts), which is a BA of .115.

Wilmsmeyer is the worst at 0-17 in that stretch. He hasn't had a hit in an SEC game since game 3 of the Ole Miss series. That's...really bad.

Diggs is 8-47 in that stretch (.170), and 4 of those hits came this past weekend against UK.

As I've said before, we're not talking enough about how Souza has been quietly slumping badly and looks undisciplined at the plate. He's taking a lot of bad swings and striking out a lot. He's 3-31 in that stretch (.096).

Team batting average vs SEC pitchers

It's awful.

We can't generate runs with our current plate approach. At least, without the help from the opponent. Walks, errors, etc...

We don't bat the ball around the field. It's boom or bust most of the time.

Ground balls, pop ups, strikeouts, and the occasional home run.

It's blatantly obvious this team isn't built for launch angle sans a couple of players.

So why in the hell are we still doing it?

While he is in a slump.

He has the best line drive power on the team. The ball just flies off his bat. Which will lead to more extra base hits and home runs.

I really want him in the lineup every game. He's the only guy that can hit piss missiles so to speak.

Coaches need to do their jobs, and work with him. He's got too much game changing talent to sit on the bench.

He at least poses a threat some of our other guys don't.

Some things can't be changed this late in the season.

Obviously DVH thinks this is the approach that'll get him a ring

Disagree. That's Helfrick, who's a low BA guy but hits the absolute shite out of the ball.

Souza's not making good contact and is striking out a lot. Conversely, he's not getting on base either. He's only drawn 6 walks in SEC play, whereas Helfrick has 4 with half the AB's.

Souza's BB/K ratio is 1:4 whereas Helfrick's is 1:1.5.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas freshman left-hander Colin Fisher will undergo surgery on his throwing elbow Monday, Razorbacks coach Dave Van Horn said during the monthly Swatter’s Club meeting.

Van Horn said the surgery is scheduled for 3 p.m. He is unsure whether Fisher will have an internal brace operation or the more invasive Tommy John surgery. Both operations address issues with the ulnar collateral ligament.

Van Horn also announced freshman lefty Hunter Dietz will undergo another procedure on his left elbow that will sideline him for 4 to 6 months. Dietz had a procedure last fall to address a stress fracture.

Van Horn said he is hopeful Dietz will be able to pitch some during fall practice and be part of the Razorbacks’ weekend rotation next season.

Either Trevor Bauer or Trevor May had a pretty interesting take on the uptick in injuries that I really hadn't considered, can't remember who it was off the top of my head. A lot of people pin it on everyone chasing velocity, which I think is true, but he thinks it's the specific way in how they're getting that velo.

To paraphrase quite a bit, essentially he says that you have to be physically strong to throw hard, so now everyone is getting strong. The issue with that is that getting strong enough allows you to be inconsistent with other factors in your velo like wind-up cadence and release timing and just brute force the velo with sheer power, and that's causing unnecessary amounts of strain on arms.

Lose 2 to a top 10 team and fall to number 5 yet Tenn loses to a floundering gator team and Lipscomb and go to number 1. Makes sense

We should feel fortunate to be in the top 5 with our anemic offense.

Good, he's earned it.

No use even worrying about the polls. As long as we're top 8, mission accomplished. Can't even argue for seeding matchups anymore because we all know they're gonna structure things based on travel first and foremost anyway.

Color me shocked. I figured after and DVH getting into it on the mound not too long ago he'd be dog housed some.
