speakign of locos on baxter, does anyone know if the old Sanford scoreboard from the late 70s is still just sitting outside next door? It always blew my mind that thing wasn't housed somewhere for safekeeping.

Dang man I remember that being outside of what used to be Locos in 2011...no idea what restaurant is there now or if that is still there. Really cool but also very random placement for it.

Not sure what was there in the 80s but it sounds like you are describing what was Gumbys when I was in school there.

Very strong possibility that was it. What was once Gumbys is now a Pizza Hut. The place I'm remembering was in that same space up to the early to mid 80's.

It has to be either that building or else the building that now houses a Dominoes a little down the road toward campus.

For the location, I'd go with 5 Star or Compadres. The restaurant I miss the most is probably Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge, though.

My other choice would be Jamburritos. It was a burrito shop on the east side of town that was only open for like a year, around 2001, and it was phenomenal. By far the best of the fast food burrito shops.

I still don't get Barberitos. I think the food is pretty bad, but it has a great location.

Great thread. It has me reminiscing about the restaurants when I was an undergrad.

Thanks to Zocor (cholesterol) and Benicar (blood pressure), I'm still cheering for the Dawgs every home game. I'm probably older than Dallas. I'll match my Cherokee Purples against his hybrids any day.

The odor of onions, bell peppers, garlic and grease is one of my downfalls. My wife calls it a "Fairground addiction". That said, I'm trying to remember where I consumed "Good Eats" in the 70's.

Spaghetti Store, Alice's restaurant, Baily's BBQ on Lexington highway, Shrimp boat (home of the original fried chicken tender, Krystal across from Russell/Brumby Hall that had naked coeds dancing atop and tear gas dispensed during the "Streak". ACCPD incited a riot...somethings never change.

Anyways, I was trying to remember the name of the place before Mean Bean. Philli cheese steak cooked on a flattop.

Those hippies at earth fair would have filed suit for local pollution involving micro "meat particles".

This thread depresses me. Not a lot left from when I was in school. Cookies and company went away, right? Please tell me The Grill is still there.

Great place as a student to grab a sandwich and sit outside for a quick lunch.

Grill still exists, as does Taco Stand and Mayflower. Think those might be the oldest remaining restaurants downtown?

I think they tried serving food at some point, but not 100% sure about that.

As a family man- Ted's Most Best.

When Solo- I like beer and wings at Blind Pig.

When date night- $eabear and The National

Blind Pig is probably the only thing that's been open since the 90's that I care for. I don't like the Grill nor Little Italy. Last Resort is ok, had one of my wedding events there, haven't been back since. It's not bad, I just don't wait in lines. It's one of my rules. If there is a line, and I have options, I'm not waiting in line.
