Man, Rice had some great teams.
Those were fun times for college ball

Wayne Graham was a legendary coach. Doubt Rice ever rekindles the late 90s/early 00s magic...

It sucked losing to them in 2003 but that pitching staff was ridiculous and I was happy for Wayne in the end.

I was much more upset at losing to Fullerton in 04, Not even getting out of the regional in 06, and losing to LSU in 09.

I knew South Carolina and North Carolina had really good programs for the last while... But they are really high on this list. Right there with baseball royalty.

Rice, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Wichita state..

Lots of good programs that used to be regulars that probably won’t ever return to prominence.

I think these are examples of "hey, we can't win in football or basketball, so let's focus on baseball and get a title".

You see how they faded away when LSU started to win, and then the entire SEC invested in baseball.

That, and it's amazing how far baseball has dropped off in California. Used to be about a dozen or so schools there that would whip your arse; now all the players are coming to the Gulf South instead.

We have 20

Yes, hence the "LSU is tied at 6th with 20."

Before Dan McDonnell got here in 2007, we had only made one Regional appearance. Since then he has taken us to the Supers ten times and to Omaha six times. It’s quite remarkable what he has built

Sad state of affairs for South Carolina. They used to be the standard and now they can’t give away seats.

Baseball has always been this way though… nothing new.

Northern Colorado went to the CWS 10 times between 1952 and 1974.

Maine went to the CWC 7 times between 1964 and 1986.

Small schools rise and have a great run that lasts a couple decades, and then they fall and their prominence is relegated to the history books.

Didn't expect Auburn to be on the list

Yeah, Auburn had only gone once prior to the hiring of Butch Thompson. And that was in 1999. This is Auburn’s 5th Super Regional in the last 8 seasons (last 9 years because of COVID cancelled season).

USC with 12 titles and only 6 supers tells you about the state of college baseball when they won all those titles

They have had some super talented teams only to choke in the most Atlanta Braves-like fashion year after year after year
