Did Nick Chubb have the best season by a freshman running back in SEC history?

Sorry for the offseason thread.
Obviously Chubb is doing just fine now, as he made the pro bowl, but I still think he had the potential to be even better before he got injured. Some people forget how dominant he was his freshman year when he had to fill in for Gurley.
Chubb's 2014 Stats
Rushing Yards: 1547
YPC: 7.1
TD: 16
Not to mention these performances:
Now I looked up the freshman stats of Herschel, Bo, McFadden, Fournette, and others. None of them were quite as good as Chubb's.
Not to mention in 2015, before his injury, Chubb was averaging 8.1 YPC and on track for 2000 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. He's good now, but I believe he would've been next level without the injury.
At first is seemed ridiculous, but what running back had a better freshman season than Chubb? I don't think there is one.

I’m not old as dirt so idk if this is true, but didn’t Georgia win the Natty off the back of a Freshman Herschel?

Can’t think of one either. What a player.
Chubb v. Walker would be a good debate

Yeah. You could make the argument that Herschel’s was better because of the Natty but his stats are not quite as good.
Herschel Walker 1980 Stats
Rushing Yards: 1616
YPC: 5.9
TD: 15

Marcus Lattimore had a pretty good one.
1197 yards. 19 TDs. 4.8 YPC.

What did his receiving yards look like? That’s not a knock at all. Chubb was great fricking RB. I ask because that was one of Lattimore’s strengths. Lattimores freshman year:
1197 rushing yards 4.8 YPC. Pretty damn good but not near the names you listed.
But Lattimore also had 412 receiving yards with 14.2 yards per catch.

It’s impossible to compare YPC across different eras imo. Just about every elite RB nowadays averages ~7-8 YPC compared to ~5-5.5 YPC pre 2000.

18 catches, 213 yards. Respectable but not anything incredible

Umm.. herschels were. Not to mention he got his more yards and 1 less TD in 11 games compared to 13 since bowl stats didn't count back then.

OP needs to have the track picture., honestly

Herschel was an Olympic level sprinter as well, so although Chubb has a famous pic of him jumping high he doesn't beat Herschel in that area

How many games did Chubb start? He had a lot fewer carries.

YPC is the most important stat for running back.
There are a ton of reasons to suggest Herschel’s season was better than Chubb’s but Chubb objectively had better stats. 7.1 to 5.9 is a pretty large gap.
And for the 11 games thing, how many yards do you think Chubb would have had if he wasn’t backing up Todd Gurley and splitting carries with Michel?

Chubb started 7/13 games that year. He backed up Gurley until Gurley got suspended.
Then Gurley was back for one game but got injured.
Chubb went 33 carries for 266 on Louisville that year

Exactly.
WG would also probably point out that Herschel was the entire offense. Georgia only completed 1 pass in the 1980 championship game. Thus why his YPC is lower.
Either way it’s a great debate.

Georgia averaged ~15 passing attempts per game, while averaging 54 rushes per game in 1980.
If you try to compare YPC one more time I’ll beat your arse.

Derrius Guice had more 250+ yard rushing games than Herschel Walker.
