Chips are down: Is Auburn vs Florida similar to LSU vs Alabama (2011)

Auburn won the regular season title by a margin of 1 game, while also losing head to head to Florida in the regular season
Florida went on to win the conference tournament
While Auburn will go down as the regular season champions, does the winner of this game determine who "really" is the SEC champion?

Put it this way, no one goes bragging about LSU winning the 2011 SEC championship.

I’m biased as hell, but I think Auburn will win this time around.
Going into out first meeting, Auburn was 22-1 (9-0), having only lost in a close matchup at Duke, and ranked as the consensus #1 team in the country.
Florida was 20-3 (6-3) but had only beaten one great team on the year (Tennessee). They had recently lost to Tennessee in the rematch by 20 points, lost to Kentucky and Missouri, and escaped with a win at South Carolina by 1 point.
I think Auburn was completely caught off guard by Florida’s physicality, and with GameDay in Auburn I think we came in with a lack of focus.
The win at Auburn was the turning point of Florida’s season. They closed winning their final 11 of 12 SEC games in route to their SEC Tournament title despite the schedule being much more difficult in that back half. They outscored their final 12 SEC opponents by a whopping 13.5 points.
Florida was the hotter team down the stretch for sure, but Auburn seems to have gotten their mojo back these last 3 games. Since the 2nd round, Torvik ranks Auburn’s performance slightly ahead of Florida’s.
I think it will be a battle, but I think Auburn is back to playing like an underdog like we were playing in November and December. I think Auburn wins 84-78.

No, but if UF goes on to win the title it is sort of like that.
Honestly though, I view conference and to lesser extent SECT titles as banners and resume items - they're good markers for the health of programs, the HC, etc. Good rewards for the teams who earn them.
But regardless of how this plays out, they mostly come up when we're comparing which programs are good over a given period. Nobody on this board is like hell yeah MSU 2004 SEC conference champs, never forget.

The regular season champion raised the banner about a month ago.

Auburn is the 2025 SEC champion in basketball.

We are.
But I won’t be pissed off pulling for UF against either Houston or Duke if it comes to that. If it can’t be us, I’ll take Florida.

CBS and Field of 68 all unanimously picked Auburn.
I think the feel is that generally Auburn is just better than Florida, and Florida has been lucky and looks tired.

That's how I feel. If Auburn beats us then I'll be rooting for them against Duke or Houston. The more SEC teams who win bball natties the better.

Or the division. Alabama didn’t win either and still had a spot in the title game.

Auburn's a pile of shite. Why don't we just leave it at that.

It won't change what happened in the regular season but I'd trade that sec title in a second for a win Saturday night

Don't sell yourself short, you get to raise a banner also.
UF has a damn good team.

+ it helps to create an impressive trophy room. Auburn now has two Final Four trophies surrounded by a number of SEC trophies. That’s a nice thing for recruiting.
Obviously, we can’t compete with Duke or Kentucky here, so every additional trophy helps.

Is this backwards? I feel like everyone feels UF is better and Auburn is just gritty.
