quote:I get that and I'm not saying this is a death penalty case, lack of institutional control case, or even a firing of pearl case based only on what is in the complaint. However, it is probably at least the loss of eligibility for a couple of possible nba level players and maybe a post season ban.
but there does not appear to be any hint that the money was given to benefit the program or team in anyway.
The complaint lays out how AU (I assume) was defrauded by continuing to pay scholarship money and playing players that were ineligible.

Kentucky in the affidavit
Unless I read something wrong, it's a "University in Kentucky" which local news figured out to be UofL and the recruit was Brian Bowen I believe.

Coaches who don't at least swim/put their toe in those waters literally cannot sign Top 100 players.
See Mark Fox.

Adidas head of sports marketing was one of the arrests, I think they dug pretty damn deep.

Seriously... they passed these out at the old barn against LSU in 2006. I think they retired his number or honored him in some way

Talking about a black hole. Summer camps/Aau/Pro Athletes/Shoe contracts
It could go on and on and on
Especially if any of the arrested are rats

I agree, actually. Seems like this has way more to do with something Chuck was doing on his own than anything Auburn had done.
I don't want feds or NCAA poking around. But I want to see what we learn about Auburn's involvement in the investigation, if any.
Assuming we're University-1, it seems like it'd be difficult for AU to be simultaneously serving as a victim for the federal case and be the bad actor for the NCAA
ETA: But we'll get drug in the media either way and I'm sure it'll be a practical hindrance for a team trying to turn the corner. AU needs a bigger program to become the target, which shouldn't be too hard.

I quit.....been thrilled with the possible outstanding basketball season...now this....I quit, i'm too old to be kicked in the nuts, over and over , suffering from constant the stupidity in the AU athletic department. I quit, its just not worth the pain

You guys know any other big name players sponsored by Adidas that played at an adidas school?

And the chaser - Rick Pitino talking about how "lucky" Louisville was to sign Bowen (the player who supposedly got $100K).

There goes Aubie...whistling past the graveyard again

Expect a shite ton of rule changes from this. NCAA has a whole dozen eggs and the chicken on their face

He signed with us and then, from what I remember, his only potential transfer destinations were adidas schools. Not hard to connect the dots there. We 100% have guys on our roster that we signed because of Adidas.

So we’re fine. This is fine.
You still have an assistant coach giving money to student athlete's and their families which is against NCAA rules I believe.

A rogue agent with motivations entirely unrelated to, and contrary to the benefit of, the program/university who employed him. Is there a comparable situation we can look to?

Would be interesting to know the players involved. Heron and Purifoy?
