Fans of two rivals.

Annually, I am reminded that one of my friends is a Kentucky fan AND a Louisville fan. He will wear whatever team is doing better at the time. He claims he grew up a Kentucky fan and went to Louisville. Is this common in Kentucky?
I know people that grew up a Florida fan, couldn't get in, went to FSU or Miami and still held allegiance to Florida. The way it should be, right?
Another person I know is a fan of the "state." So whoever is doing well at the time, he cheers for between Florida, Miami, and FSU. (He did not go to college)
I was wondering if you guys experience people like this? I imagine it happens often in Alabama and Mississippi. Do these people convert or do they cheer for both teams? I find it super strange to cheer for both rivals.

No. Your friend sucks.

I wouldn't be friends with a person like that.

Really he's just a co-worker. But still. I remind him that he's weird about this and he claims he can cheer for anyone he wants. Free country I guess, but if he went back to Kentucky wearing a Kentucky shirt and a Louisville hat, I imagine he'd get shot in public.

I've known girls that change their allegiances based on who they're dating.
Generally though they just tend to wear the colors of whatever home team they're tailgating at so maybe that's a poor example.

Yes. I don't disagree with this. But a straight male that went to Louisville and cheers for both? The dude has issues. I thought it was just a Kentucky thing.

he could have stayed Kentucky fan and went to Louisville- kind of a dick move though.
or he could have 1 time switched to Louisville
what he is doing is wrong

Bama fans:
Which is worse: a) a die hard Auburn fan or b) someone who roots for both Bama and Auburn?

My apologies, but as an LSU fan I must ask. What is this "rival" thing you speak of?

I am also curious as an aggie fan but I think I am starting to understand

It happens often enough. Those that grow up a fan of Alabama, but attend Auburn for their veterinary, agriculture, or forestry programs. Or Auburn fans that attend Alabama for their business and law programs.

But do they convert or cheer for both schools at that point?

I know some that cheer for both because they can't give up their fandom or cheer against their alma mater.
