The top 5 jobs in college football

1 Georgia- Georgia might have lost to Alabama on the field last weekend, but that doesn’t change how this job is viewed in the industry.
The list of reasons this program sits in the top spot is long. As one Big Ten assistant put it: “Georgia is No. 1 because of the pool of (money) they have to pay, donor support, the facilities, the ability to consistently compete for a national championship, the tradition, the recruiting base they have in the South and the NFL pedigree that they can sell to recruits.”
I'm surprised Alabama was not #1. I'm also amazed LSU is #5 after reading all the LSU is poor posts on here.
2 Texas-The potential is limitless. It’s the flagship university in a state that produces an abundance of talent with everything you could ask for in terms of NIL, facilities and staffing.
“It’s the absolutely unlimited resources that you have to do whatever you need,” said a Group of 5 offensive coordinator who voted Texas No. 1. “That is a place that has zero excuses (not) to win.”
3 Ohio State-The Ohio State job is essentially recession-proof. The Buckeyes have avoided the sustained stretch of mediocrity that Alabama, Texas and other elite programs have experienced. The past three coaches, including Ryan Day, have won at least 82 percent of their games. The last six coaches have posted a winning percentage of .715 or better.
4 Alabama-No program has won at a higher level for a longer period than what Alabama did under Saban. But, naturally, there’s the curiosity of what this job will be like without the greatest college coach of all time in charge.
The commitment, support and alignment are there. The recruiting appeal is strong. So is the brand power and whatever else you can think of.
5 LSU-There was a wide gap between the top four jobs and No. 5, but LSU is still a program with all the advantages needed to win championships.
The Tigers are the only power-conference program in Louisiana and have traditionally done an outstanding job keeping top talent from leaving the state. In the 2024 cycle, LSU signed 10 of the 11 blue-chip prospects in the state. In the current cycle, the Tigers have commitments from eight of the 12 blue-chippers from Louisiana.

There's not nearly as big of a difference between 1-4 & #5 LSU as he seems to think. I don't know what these other universities have that LSU doesn't? Don't say money... That's def not true

Georgia has been sitting on a gold mine for years. It is one of the most talent-rich states in the country but, unlike Texas or Florida or California, they are the only major program in the state. Georgia Tech is a decent football school but you have to go back almost 35 years to find the last time they were truly relevant on a national scale.
Based on this fact alone I would call them the biggest underachievers in the history of college football.

Are we calling anyone but USC the only major program in California? Because UCLA/Stanford/Cal certainly belong in the GT bucket IMO as well.

Baptist’s calling the shots and making things trashy.

I agree with these being the top 5 and I’m not sure how important the order is. No one would leave one for the other IMO

Has Ohio State played this season?

LSU fired the last two coaches that won NCs.
How is that one of the best jobs?

Those schools have MUCH more recent history than Georgia Tech, Stanford especially.

Not close to top 5 school.
Just one of the maybe 12 schools in the nation that is capable of competing for multiple national titles with a great head coach who can recruit at elite levels.

Ryan Day beats up on cupcakes regularly. He’s already lost to Oregon (one score loss but defense sucked under Coombs), Clemson (Trevor Lawrence and terrible officiating added to that loss), Georgia (great game but still a close loss is a loss), Alabama (wasn’t even a contest- over by the middle of the third quarter-also under Coombs), Michigan three times (yes the world knows they cheated their asses off) and Missouri (OSU’s defense under Knowles kept them in the game until late in the 4th qtr.)
IOW what are his big OOC wins? Clemson maybe? Utah in the Rose Bowl? Okay those are decent wins but not great wins. Day clams up when he faces better coaching and teams with similar or better talent. The fact that he had no answer for Missouri is an indictment on his stubborn attitude. Day makes it a top priority to blow off the last two biggest games of the year lol. I like the Chip Kelly hiring but it’s too early to say that Day won’t get in his own way at some point

Not being a LSU insider, I recall both Miles and Orgeron being involved in some way with sex scandals. No idea about the details. That said, universities have zero tolerance for that kind of stuff. Look at Baylor. They forced out Art Briles who won the Big 12 and had a Heisman QB over his actions/inactions with their scandal.

Ohio State with that B1G schedule is a rockin' chair job. Look out buckeyes, the season is almost half over, and here comes Iowa.

By the way, I think A&M is a top 10 job. Rich recruiting territory between Texas and Louisiana, lots of financial support, an administration that understands sports success is good for the academic side, and relative patience. The last is important - you don't pull the trigger super fast.
