Unless injury happens I don’t think Pettiford is playing much if any 1 this season. That is basically per Bruce.
Bruce is selling out to win as much as possible this year and putting the ball in the hands of a true freshman in Feb and March isn’t a recipe for success.
This is an all or nothing kind of season. Anything can happen in a tournament but this team is built for an elite 8 final 4 run

We are good as long as Pegasus doesnt get hurt.

He said just the other day that depending on who we sign Pettiford could get some minutes at the backup 1. He did reiterate that his primary role will be as an off ball scorer. So I guess it depends on who he sees as the best backup 1 option between Denver, Miles, Pettiford
Seems like Pegasus is primed to get 30-35 minutes a game though

And he’ll be playing somewhere else, year 2. You can no longer sit guys like that all year.

"Everyone assumed Tahaad was going to come in and be our point guard," Pearl said. "He's not. Tahaad is a scorer. He is an incredible athlete. He can make plays on both ends of the floor. He's going to be one of the fastest, quickest, most explosive little guards I've ever had."
"He's not a true point guard," Pearl said of Pettiford. "Can he play some? He might." Pearl deployed some non-traditional PG minutes last season with Denver Jones, who played shooting guard the majority of the time he was on the floor. Jones' lateral movement on the defensive end and his pure stroke from beyond the arc made him a perfect fit at SG, but his solid ball-handling and playmaking abilities made Pearl confident in letting him play some at the lead guard spot.

Miles.
Years ago we had Miles Patrick.
He was a solid player.
Miles Kelly will get minutes at 2/3 I guess.

Pettiford is listed at 5-10/175 lbs on Auburns official roster. Is he SEC ready from a physical standpoint?

Jared Harper. Cooper was about 5’10 180. A lot of our guards have been “small”. We’ve had few large ones
Gotta watch the tape. That kid doesn’t play small. That’s the beautiful thing about basketball. A kid’s game transcends size, big or small

He’s the most athletic point guard we’ve potentially ever had. He’s 5’10 doing eastbay dunks in games.

Athletically he is ready but he will have to learn how to overcome getting bodied but that's true of 99.9% of all freshmen. People remember Harper as a Jr but he got big boyed pretty often as a freshman too

Yeah but the good thing is we aren’t gonna ask him to do too much. Just want him to come be a lightning rod off the bench. If it ain’t working he won’t get big minutes. A luxury we didn’t have last year with Aden (or freshman Harper)

The nightmare of the Nallsminger offense.
2003 was a huge waste of talent with shitty offensive coaching.

Well, that will do it for 2024 recruiting. On paper, things look really good for the upcoming season.
I'm always a little concerned about how the older transfers will gel with the team but hopefully the 3 new faces will fit it with the existing team and the 2 new freshmen. They always seem to end up at the lake for a little team building and of course a Bruce bbq.
I'd say the staff understood the back court deficiencies and made moves to correct. And hopefully the 2 freshman don't feel the pressure to be "the man" with experienced players in front of them taking the load. But who knows, Pettiford and Howard may give some guys a run for their position.
Rotations could sure look interesting at times with this team and I'm betting it takes a few games for the staff to decide on who plays well with who and what rotations work and which ones don't.

I’ve seen him play Miles Kelly a couple games over the last couple years at McCammish while my son was a GT student. He can play. They had him focus more on defense when the new coaching staff came in but he lit it up for 20+ on both games I saw. I was stunned we picked him up. Bruce is doing work

I’m more excited about him after digging into him for a couple of days. I think his usage will drop a little at AU but expect his efficiency to go up. We are gonna have a nice crop of veteran guards next season. I’d expect some growing pains early in the year because guards can take a while to gel but the ceiling doesn’t exist
