Catalon transfer is weird. Just off-putting to me. He essentially took up a scholarship space for 2 seasons, benefited from school training staff/resources, while not playing hardly any. I know that he had no choice about getting injured, but that's still the situation. Then he gets healthy and goes to play for satan.

I know we're all supposed to be blindly cheering on Sam and pretending everything is ok but that's a a pretty big set back worth of transfers from a depth perspective and play making perspective....

Catalon aside, I’d argue we upgraded with the two Baylor commits. If we get Teslaa, we’ll be pretty strong from a WR standpoint.
No one near the quality of Drew Sanders on our radar thought.

Also his brother found he way on the team transferring in from Southern before transferring out this past year to Abilene Christian.
This was done by Morris and crew before the NIL family packages became a $$ thing.

It may very well end up being a downgrade, but we are a long way from done with the portal.

It feels like we'll at best be talented at starter, several guys learning the new system and razor thing again though with that much depth transferring out.
we've always had struggles with depth but this seems like it's going to accentuate it.

While I agree I think ever team is having to deal with this because of NIL. Very few teams will have ideal depth and guys that have “waited their turn”.

I would agree if we weren't at the very top of the country in people transferring out. we're hitting what some teams have transferring out just in contributors let alone the ones that we believe are opening up scholarships from not seeing the field.

Some of these transfers were told to go and the others the light bulb finally came on that they aren't as good as what they think they are. But then again I wouldn't be surprised that Sam started one by one cutting these players after watching them each game this year. This year was a big disappointment and would only be natural to start processing these players to make way for upgrades. This team needs more quality players that can contribute and not quantity players that will rot on the bench.
The portal gets rid of these players that were overevaluated by these coaching staffs. It gives them another chance to evaluate other players after a few years that were under the radar coming out of high school but improved enough to be given another chance at better power 5 schools.

Totally hear you. We definitely processed some of these players but not all. we probably are losing as many contributors as other teams are losing players. Plus processing several more who we couldn't develop into players... That's not a good sign for evaluation, culture, continuity, or depth...
We're definitely in better shape under Sam but something just seems a little off. hopefully pittman is working that out but i'd hardly say all signs are positive at the moment with the football program. They're also not all negative but i'm still kinda cautious optimistic we'll be able to meet expectations next year.

I feel pretty good about the hires so far and the transfer portal is building steam... But was definitely getting that vibe in the last half of the season.
Seems almost like the divide in the locker room was offense vs defense (Sam vs Barry) and Barry's side of the locker room is getting out.
The D coach hires and immediate transfers in on defense are encouraging. That and Sam saying that locker room morale/attitude had already improved before the bowl game at least gives me a little optimism moving forward.
Emphasis on "a little"

If he can stay healthy he will be an all American. He will be the only person tackling anybody on their defense
That said, frick texas

Sounds like he's Iowa bound.
Man, losing to AM and Liberty royally hurt us this off season. We likely land our targets if we don't lose those two

That makes sense, since Iowa throws so often. Unless he is converting to Tight End, that’s a dumb move.

Iowa is out. According to folks up in Iowa, he’s deciding between us and Iowa State today.

Case in point: Charlie Jones.
Mired in obscurity at Iowa, and portaled to Purdue this past offseason where he immediately turned into a Biletnikoff contender.
He ended up with 1,000 more receiving yards in 2022 at Purdue (1,361) than he did at Iowa in 2021 (323), as well as quadrupling his TD count.

Dude would be a huge pickup. The short highlight reel he posted on Twitter is pretty ludicrous.
