This was posted on the main rant but I think it's relevant here because it will impact us.

The short version: Under the new rule, if medical personnel enter the field to evaluate an injured player after the ball is spotted by the officiating crew for the next play, that player's team will be charged a timeout. If the team does not have any timeouts remaining, a 5-yard delay-of-game penalty will be assessed.

What say you?

So they'll be back in 2 plays...needs to be until the next possession...

Sounds like Lane will be just be telling his guys to get down FASTER.

I'm glad they're trying something at least. The obvious fake injuries are so lame.

Somehow someway this will end up screwing us. I always took pride in that we seemed to be the only team in the conference that didn't do the fake injuries, at least from when I watched

It's a shame CNS retired because with how he saved his timeouts, we would have been able to fake injuries three times, in just the first half!

I can't remember which game or the player but Bama did fake an injury this year. Just goes to show you what's going on here now.

Not saying it was OK, but pretty sure it was during a play in which the referees had improperly managed a substitution by the other team.

It seems like this new rule still leaves some wiggle room for teams to take advantage. Hopefully it does crackdown on some of it though.

Step in the right direction

I think the real teeth to a rule like this and keep it from being taken advantage of is to keep the injured player off the field until end of possession or assess an automatic 1st down

Yeah so I just have my guys be “injured” during play. That’s an easy work around.

Agreed that the player needs to sit out the rest of the possession AND be charged a time out.

Being charged a timeout just for being injured or be charged a timeout if they return before the subsequent possession?

I'm against just charging TOs if available for injury timeouts because it incentivizes negative behaviors (exacerbating injuries by trying to play through it or walk on the injury). Definitely agree with your point if you mean the latter though.

At least it is a start. Timeout can be a big deal. Still got to get tougher on this.
