According to Dick “Hoops” Weiss tweeted it out…

Thought a&m had money?

Not a good look.

Tennessee might have some flight attendant jobs open on our NIL collective private jets.

They're paying him a lot of money... just to come in and pay a lot of money.

He'll fire secretaries making $35,000 a year, but I doubt he factored in paying players during HIS salary negotiations.

Wow, don't their fans always share how many billions they have?

He's head of the athletic department. Not the head of the 12th Man Foundation or the 12th Man Collective.

He still can't pay players.

Expect many more to follow. The decision for two mega-conference NFL-lite is a done deal & AD’s are being given a small window to prepare.

I remember during Covid when they would do food giveaways for people who were financially struggling. They would show this on the news. People would wait in line in their cars for hours to get a bag of groceries worth $50. It wasn't just 'poor' people getting these handouts. There were the idiots who overspend and live beyond their means. There were people in $70,000 cars, talking on $1,500 phones, who needed the free groceries or their families wouldn't eat that day.

The CFB equivalent of these people is Texas A&M.

Don't most new AD's want to bring in their own top people with them? I always assumed they did.

I can't understand these fans wanting to throw their money away by paying players. I never understood it when boosters were paying college athletes back when it was against the rules, and I can't grasp it now. Is there some kind of high or psychological benefit you get from it? Because I don't believe it to be a tax write off. I know the luxury suites used to be a write off, but the IRS closed that loophole.

Also I can't tell if Alberts is a bad guy or the media just doesn't like him. They are certainly trying to paint him in a negative light, which almost makes me like him.

I would think so as well. Not to mention the fact that administering this NIL & transfer portal environment would necessitate athletic departments beef- up staffing to handle the damn paperwork and complacence/reporting workload.

Then why not say that, instead of:

Since when could Universities directly pay players?

Dude we had a "spiritual mentor" being paid $150,000/yr. These weren't secretaries.

And if your athletic department isn't positioning to pay many millions per year directly to players, in addition to their personal NIL, you are gonna be left in the dirt. NIL is private and not related or reported by Athletic Department. This is big checks directly from athetic department to athletes.

And your history and team name won't mean shite when compared to green money.

At his introductory press conference, Alberts talked about how they are expecting college football to evolve to a point where players get a share in the revenue at some point in the not too distant future. If that happens, he figures you are looking at spending an extra $20 million give or take on player compensation. So, you are going to have to find that money somewhere.

A&M has been using donations from the 12th Man Foundation to stay in the black, which is partly what the TMF is there for, but you don't want to be in a situation where you have to rely on donations, especially if we are in a revenue sharing model. We've had a lot of bloat in the AD over the last two decades, so some trimming was definitely in order.

And it won't make any difference. A&M has always had money. Back in the 80's A&M was throwing bags of cash at players and still couldn't get them to come. They would have let Eric Dickerson name his price. It's just always been a struggle to get a kid to commit or stay in College Station TX.

Seems like we are leading the way here. Every college will need to do this to remain competitive.
