People currently enjoy traveling to Tennessee as little as possible, so no.

Joe Dirt : You're gonna stand there, ownin' a fireworks stand, and tell me you don't have no whistlin' bungholes, no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker doos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers, with or without the scooter stick, or one single whistlin' kitty chaser?

Aggy miles travelled to Atlanta is zero.

That’s why you don’t hear them begging for the sec cship being moved to Beaumont.

This is a good stat.

I always thought LSU was kind of on an island but we are actually in the middle.

Great thread.

But somehow this isn't a game the SEC feels should continue on a yearly basis.

It's a mercy ruling.

True. No one wants to see a “rivalry” that is 87-17-3.

To bammers it’s a rivalry that must be protected cause it’s 90 minutes away.

From the state dogs… thank God

You mean to tell me the schools at the periphery of the map have the longest average distance in comparison to those schools near the center of the footprint?

I'll never forget when I was in a geography class (should have been advertised as meteorology but whatever), our teacher introduced himself to us on the first day of class. He made mention that he had taught at Mississippi State before coming to Alabama. After telling us where he had just come from, he paused for dramatic effect, as if expecting a reaction.

Total silence greeted him.

Finally he said: "Nothing? Really? They [Mississippi State] hate your guts over there and you couldn't care less."

12. South Carolina – Average miles: 539

Georgia – 134 miles
Tennessee – 212 miles
Auburn – 275 miles
Florida – 312 miles
Kentucky – 339 miles
Vanderbilt – 359 miles
Alabama – 380 miles
Mississippi State – 450 miles
Ole Miss – 486 miles
LSU – 640 miles
Missouri – 714 miles
Arkansas – 757 miles
Texas A&M – 924 miles
Oklahoma – 937 miles
Texas – 1009 mile

In 2024 South Carolina doesn't play Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, or Florida. The four closest SEC teams are not on the schedule. Yet they play Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Missouri. Three of the five furthest SEC teams. Makes absolutely no sense.

1. Alabama & Mississippi State - 74 miles

In the past that was a big deal - made it so easy for the team and the band to make the trip to Starksville from Tuscaloosa and vice versa.

Those long distance matchups are REALLY brutal for the other sports. It's a lot of money and logistics to send a baseball or softball team nearly 1000 miles to play a series.

Would AU have ranked #1 prior to latest round of westward expansion? Always thought of Auburn as being at the center in the past

Alabama - 345 miles

This is something I have always enjoyed in our conference. To get to any stadium from Bama is not really a problem. Baton Rouge was always a bit of a pain. I looked once and Baton Rouge is only 268 miles from Houston and is 349 miles from Ttown. Auburn, State, Ole Miss, UT, UGA when they came on the schedule are easy, Uf was out there but for all our regular opponents save LSU, all are a quick drive away.

As i have been told, don't think this game is totally gone as a perm. The schedule that came out was for 2024 and 2024 only. Nothing past 2024 has been completed. They are going to re-visit all the perms going forward next summer. I still maintain Bama-LSU goes away and State stays on.
