LSU landed a commitment from former Texas A&M safety Jardin Gilbert on Friday.

Gilbert is a Baton Rouge native and was a four-star prospect at University Lab.

Gilbert made double-digit starts in College Station over the last two seasons, recording 79 tackles and two interceptions. He fills a significant need in LSU's secondary, which will continue to rebuild after a down year.

His commitment also comes on the same day LSU lost starting defensive back Sage Ryan to the transfer portal.

What is so ironic is that Sage was a "5 Star" and Gilbert was a "4".

I'm surprised that someone isn't whining that we lost a precious "5 star" . . .

Tells you everything you need to know right there. He wanted to come to LSU but A&M was just paying to much. Would imagine that was the case for many of the top LA. boys that signed with A&M.

Time to start recruiting old school LSU safeties and corners instead of relying on average players from other schools to start for us. I’m trying to win SEC championships

Amazing how we lose one only to gain a better one. This is awesome news.

Sage Ryan started at Corner for almost the entire season. Gilbert is a Safety.

Awesome addition. I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks he's not an upgrade to Sage (or anyone else in secondary for that matter

Plus, maybe he helps convince U High kids to stay home
