re: Looking ahead to 2013, Cocks may run the table

You may be right. Does Georgia finally play Alabama again? We go there in September and we host Florida (Our permanent Eastern rival) in October.

Maybe he and Harvey Updike will share a cell.
re: Chavis-Has he coached his last game at LSU?
Posted by bigpurple1957 on 11/29/12 at 3:41 pm
He will never leave LSU for Tennessee. Why would he? Sure he loves UT, but why would he, at his age, want to start again with a losing program. You make a good point, but his best chance at another BCS championship is at LSU, not with the Vols.

re: #1 Reason Les Miles would leave LSU

You are exactly right. Les is the 5th winningest coach in SEC history (behind Neyland, Thomas, Wade, and Meyer and just ahead of saban and Bryant)and the vocal minority show their moronic foolishness evry week when we win by 7 and not 70.
re: Dan Mullen Hates Bo Wallace

I remember from 1980-1983 my beloved Tigahs were 0-4 against 007 John Bond and the only close game of the four was a 24-27 loss in Starkvegas. I'll believe until the day that I pass from this old world that not one player from our defense lais n hand on that kid for 4-years. Nothing to do with your beef with State fans, but we may have TOUCHED Bo Wallace 5-6 times all day in November 17.he reminds me of John Bond in his command of the game.
re: Does Mullen return?
Posted by bigpurple1957 on 11/27/12 at 6:36 pm
Mullen will stay in Starkville as long as he wants. He is 3-1 against their biggest (by far) rival and the man can coach. Besides, no one at State with the authority to fire him will do it In fact, if people think he leaves State after another 8 OR 9 win year at a school in the SECW that is historically a dormat, they are probably on some bad drugs, at best. He is one of the best coaches around and it's been many moons since MSU has gone to three straight (reputable) bowl games; maybe never, but he will stay as long as he wants. People in the know at MSU will tell you that he is serious about his relationship with the Lord compared to 4-years ago when every other word out of his mouth was mf of gd. They guy is one of the best young college coaches/teachers in the game today.
re: I think it is obvious that LSU has replaced Auburn as Alabama's little brother.
Posted by bigpurple1957 on 11/26/12 at 2:54 pm
Alabama has a classy coach, really classy and very good players, but the fans that behave like they are entitled to be 'LSU's big brother'. When I go to Tuscaloosa to watch the Tigers play Bama their fans are extremely nice to me (and have been since my first game their in 1980). But why are their a minority of a-holes who think Bama deserves to win just b/c they show up. You are the reason I hope Georgia eats your lunch and if you beat them I hope ND beats you once again. Alabama is the only team I refuse to pull for in post-season because of idiots like you. You probably don't even know where Tuscaloosa is.
re: Bear vs Mac redux?
Posted by bigpurple1957 on 11/26/12 at 2:41 pm
You are probably right. Had a board member tell me when I was in my early 20's that Mac would go to Arkansas on a hunting trip but would not go to New Orleans to visit some of the greatest (White and Black)players in that city. True story.

mac left in '79, Bo Rien died in a plane ccrash in early 1980, and Stovall coached from 1980- 1983. So, Im no dummy and I probably have forgotten more about LSU football than you will ever know. Not mad at you at all.have a great week.

The Bear wasn't Mac's problem in the 1960's. Vaught was. from 1962-1969 LSU was favored in 7 of the 8 games played. Ole Mis won 6, lost 1 and the teams tied 13-13 in 1967 when Eddie Ray from Vicksburg missed a 4th quarter extra point.
re: (10-2) not the focal point, Quality wins are.

People who criticize the LSU Tiger football program from 2000-2012 either have a terrible memory or they missed their dosage of Prozac. remember curley-ball, Archer, Dinardo (when the 10-2 Peach Bowl win over Clemson was a 'lSU is back moment'). The man has coached 105 games and he has won 85 of them. Please, please go away or become a Tulane fan where you may obtain some relevance.

1967(missed xtra-point), 1972 (21-35) 1973 (we outgain them 3 to 1 but 3-fumbles lead to 21-Bama points and we lose 7-21). After the 1973 game Mac's program loses to Tulane and Tennesse in the astro-Bluebonnet Bowl). We are picked to win the SEC in '74, the year of the Tiger, and we go 5-5-1 and we never win over 8-games again until 1982.In 1969 we lose to Ole Miss 23-26 and get knocked out of the Cotton Bowl by ND. Vegas odds in the 1969 bowl season had two teams that would have benn favored over Texas in the 01-01-1970 Cotton Bowl - Penn State by 1 and LSU by 3. Source: Dallas Morning News.
re: great old footage from LSU at Ole Miss '77

Tim Ellis and Bobby garner was Ole Miss's QB. This was a year before Fourcade. Remember, Ole Miss lost this game when Tim Ellis was running wide open down the sideline with no one in persuit and for some reason stepped out of bound forcing a FG which they missed just before halftime.

re: 1969 tigers no bowl??
Posted by bigpurple1957 on 7/24/12 at 1:18 pm
Cholly Mac thought he had a deal worked out with the Cotton Bowl, so he turned down a deal with the Sugar. He never followed up with the Cotton Bowl during the latter part of the '69 season and after the Tulane game he contacted the Cotton reps and was informed that ND would be playing Texas after a 25-year bowl ban. Mac then tried to get deal with the Sugar, but they had already committed to Ole Miss. As a last resort the Liberty Bowl contacted LSU to play Colorado , but the team voted not to play because they felt they deserved a more prestigous bowl (...and they were right).

This game belongs on Halloween. It's tradition, man.
