re: More trouble for Louisiana's largest coastal project after Army Corps pulls permit

I think I’m done fighting this losing battle. We killed our coast, and no one with any power to help is serious about it.
re: My die hard Saints fan friends say they are done with the team

Man, not only is this not the worst Saints team to ever take the field, this is not even the worst QB room in Saints history, and I’m saying that under the assumption that Carr is not going to play for us anymore.
The level of panic of some Saints fans over this pick is embarrassing. The funny thing is if the team had picked another project DE with an injury history at 40 that no one had ever heard of before, from a small college… half of Shough’s critics would be fine with that.
Worst case scenario, Shough doesn’t work out. So what? Plenty of 2nd rounders haven’t. Just like any other player in the NFL, they are easily replaced.
Second round draft picks are a naturally recurring resource.

Police don’t need a warrant if they are lawfully in a place and they see a crime committed in plain view.
If they are arresting the person for being here illegally, his presence alone on US soil is the commission of a crime.
So in my non-lawyer, regular person interpretation that doesn’t mean anything to anyone, the police don’t need a warrant here.

re: The Battle of the Mutara Nebula - Best Sci-Fi battle ever?

The key to this battle is that it doesn’t go too fast, and there’s not too much going on. It allows the tension to build and gives the actors and music their opportunities to have center stage at the right moments.
That’s a lost art in movies now. Everything is scaled up, moves too fast, builds no suspense. The camera shakes and the pan shots blur. The music is flat and generic. You would never miss it if it wasn’t there.
Here… the music and the volleys of fire are unforgettable. I could watch it over and over.

I’m fine with the pick. The risk is appropriate. It’s just a 2nd round pick.
We need another QB. Cheap, if possible.
Want a young QB? You already have one. His name is Spencer Rattler.
Want a different QB? Who? Saints fans would hate any of them and you know it.
Wanted Shough later? He wouldn’t be there. Don’t kid yourself. He would not.
QB is the most important position. Keep picking them until you get one that works. It’s worth the risk.

I actually think it’s Baby Billy that doesn’t make it out of the season alive. They keep foreshadowing his death by him repeatedly saying things along the line of making money while he can, and his wife assuring him that he will always be around.
re: I might actually be ok with the Saints spending this whole draft on offensive support
Posted by SpqrTiger on 4/23/25 at 11:17 am
I agree with you 100%. This is an offensive league, and playmakers are needed. This is a team without a punch, and anything that helps with that is an effort well-spent. The Saints are not going to defense their way back to relevance.

I won it. Hardly even tried.
I looked out the window and the sign was there. My initial thought was they have to be joking… but it turns out some of the flowers in my garden were super legit. So I give them the credit. I didn’t do jack shite.

Okay, I watched the first episode and my quick reaction is that the tone is different this time out, but weirdly inspirational.
I don’t know what it is… but when I watch him take on a big idea in his own way… I admire him for it. He’s just so… different.

I sincerely hope it is as weird as ever. Man, nobody does concept comedy like Nathan.

Nice show by the Avs.
Gotta make hay while they have a bit of an advantage.

We should do a separate playoff thread.
I’m ready to throw down tonight. I don’t have a dog in this fight, so I want maximum violence and intensity from start to finish. Lots of overtime, lots of heartbreak. Let’s do this!

Update: Habs blow it in a shootout. Still alive for the playoffs, but they will need to pick up a point against the Canes in their last game.

Ivan Demidov is 10 minutes into his NHL career and already has an assist and a goal for the Habs. Lol
Habs in a win and you’re in game with the Blackhawks right now… lead 2-0 in the first.

Why would a man ever dye his grey hair? That’s a sign that you have lived. Embrace it.

Need to elevate Robert Powell to the Good category. I always thought he was outstanding.

Exactly... it takes a long time to build up land. These projects were never intended to reach completion in our lifetimes. This is about future generations, not ours.
Unfortunately, that's how opponents of the projects justify canceling/delaying/stealing from them. Their line of thinking is... if it doesn't benefit me in my lifetime... screw it... it doesn't matter to me.
In this state... the tail wags the dog. We let short-term thinkers and local interests handicap any big-picture strategy for Louisiana. I'm hardly surprised by this latest development in a long, long, tradition of South Louisiana bullshite.

The West has some solid teams. I always feel like the media sleeps on the West… but man… the Stars, Jets, Avs, VGK, Oilers… even the Wild and Kings are tough. The Flames can goalie you on a good night, too.
Related to that… in order for one of the weaker teams to move up into the playoff ranks, one of the aforementioned teams needs to slip. I don’t see that happening anytime soon. There’s a lot of talent of these teams and a good bit of it is young talent.
