In 8 team scenario, how do you treat conference championship game losers? Take this hypothetical where we have USC over Wisconsin, for example. Why? USC truly being rewarded for not making conference title game

What happens when two highly rated or undefeated teams meet in a conference championship game or 12th game? End of season rivalries and conference championship games would both be devalued in an 8 team playoff. The end of the regular season would be far less important than it is today.

Okay, put Penn State in

Then I'd say Michigan

Then I'd say that Penn State beat the two teams that defeated Michigan. Penn State also finished their season on a stronger note above Michigan in the final standings. The results of games early in the season aren't an indicator of how good a team is today.

Do you think Alabama would destroy USC again if they played today? Would Ole Miss score 43 against Alabama today? Would a healthy Auburn lose to Texas A&M at home today?

Literally every fan base would acted the same way. They would rally around the man that gave them 4+ decades of great football, and have found it hard to believe anything like that could have happened.

Exactly. Penn State fans that appear to show reverence for Paterno are likely just showing appreciation for Paterno's on the field product and actions. I imagine that most Penn State fans would agree that Paterno's off the field inaction wasn't good.

PSU has won 9 in a row.

And that 9-3 USC team has won 8 in a row.

Back in the day of the polls, you could lose early when teams were finding themselves.

I agree with how you're thinking. Penn State shouldn't be penalized much for two losses in September. They became a much better football team in October and have a strong case for being the best team in the Big 10.

Why couldn't we just keep the BCS rankings? If not that, I would have preferred letting computers determine the rankings. The powers that be could have determined the criteria for the ranking algorithms and let the seasons play out. Computers wouldn't have to justify themselves to the public, and computers would allow for consistency as long as the source code remained unmodified.

Their fanbase are sick people. they defend and make excuses for the child rapist

What evidence do you have that Paterno molested children? He didn't do enough to stop Sandusky's crimes and protect future victims, but he is not personally responsible for anyone's actions but his own. To call him a rapist is ridiculous. If you had a kid or spouse that committed a heinous crime, and you reported it, but nothing was done, would you deserve to be thought of as badly as your kid or spouse?

I don't get how anyone could be a pedo state fan. I wouldn't be an LSU fan if we were raping kids for years

The Penn State scandal involved former coaches and administrators. Why should the players and fans ever have been punished? They weren't even aware of what was occurring and deserve no blame for what occurred. The current team and administration that Penn State fans support are not the ones that were a part of the scandal. What about that is so difficult for some people to understand?
Penn State lost two games in September. Why are people talking like Penn State would get blown out by Michigan if the two teams played today? As for the Pittsburgh loss, Pittsburgh went on to beat Clemson at Clemson. Pittsburgh defeated two Power 5 conference champions. Penn State lost in a road game the second week of the season. Clemson's November loss at home is much worse.

The most valid arguments against Penn State IMO are that they have one less top 10 win than Ohio State and one more loss. Those are two indisputable facts. However, the rankings have been a little silly. Wisconsin jumped from unranked to #10 after beating an overrated LSU team. Three weeks later Wisconsin beat an overranked Michigan State team. Wisconsin doesn't have a single impressive win.

On that note, Oklahoma doesn't have an impressive win either and played in the weakest Power 5 conference this season. That was early in the season. Oklahoma also lost in September, and I'm not sure that Ohio State would blow them out if they played now given how shaky Ohio State has looked lately. Thus the way I see it, Penn State and Ohio State only have one win over a team worthy of a top 10 ranking apiece. It just so happens that Penn State's is over Ohio State.

Ohio State blew a 14 point 4th quarter lead to a 17 point underdog and did not win their division. It's also not fair that Ohio State got an extra week to recover and not have to risk injury. Look at how many Alabama defenders got hurt in the SEC Championship game. One extra game can result in injuries that drastically change the outcome of a team's postseason.

I'm not convinced that Ohio State would beat Penn State if they played on a neutral field today, and I don't think Ohio State looked like one of the 4 best teams in the country in their last two games. Ultimately, we don't have any influence over the committee's decision tomorrow, but I don't see great reasons to leave Penn State out when they lost to two good teams in September, are playing good football right now, and won their conference. If Ohio State is in, it will send the message that brand name recognition is more valuable than a team winning its division or conference. Penn State did everything they needed to do on the field in order to win their conference. Ohio State did not.

I won't lose any sleep over the final rankings tomorrow, but I'm really interested in knowing why people are making such a big deal out who Penn State lost to and how. Michigan and Ohio State were playing much better football earlier in the year than now. Penn State has earned the right to call themselves the Big Ten's best team.

An Indiana city has renamed two holidays in a bid to be more culturally sensitive. Columbus Day and Good Friday will now be known as Fall and Spring Holiday in Bloomington, the Bloomington Herald-Times reports. Mayor John Hamilton, who made the change on Friday, said the politically correct names will make the two holidays more inclusive in a memo to city employees.

What will leftists do next to disregard, distort, and "erase" history? I wonder what students are being taught in American social studies classes. Recent walk-outs, riots, and protests captured on social media make it clear that some haven't learned or been taught American government and history appropriately.
Alabama was close to an undefeated season in 2013. Offense and special teams shared equal responsibility for the Iron Bowl loss as the defense.
Auburn had a much worse defense that season. I like Alabama's defense this season, but the Iron Bowl may be another game where they won't carry the team to victory. They'll certainly keep the team in it though.
What was wrong with the team and coaching in the 2013 Iron Bowl that won't present a problem this time? Recall that Alabama was the 11-0 defending SEC and national champs then too.
