NCAA Wrestling Championship-Mizzou outlook
Posted by 5thTiger on 3/7/18 at 7:32 pm
125: Barlow makes the field by some crazy decision from the committee. Unseeded. Opens with #8 Lizak. Should see Oliver of Indiana on the backside. Any wins would be all cherries.
133: Erneste gets the #5 seed, which is pretty fair. Should have a pretty clear path to quarters where #4 Brock should be waiting. 1 point match in Stillwater. Pretty tough weight overall. AA will still be tough.
141: eierman at #2. Dodged most of the tough draw. Should walk to quarters. Nothing ever easy from there. Should AA, with legit shot at Finals.
149: Leeth, the biggest surprise of the season, snags #3. Same story as eierman, should walk to quarters. Probably not a title challenger, but certainly a threat to make the Finals. AA likely, should he wrestle the way he has all year.
157: good news, joey gets the #2. Bad news, 157 is a meat grinder. Good news, got a pretty good draw. Bad news, Nolf at the #3. Good news, Nolf is injured, bad news, still have to get through the meat grinder to get the semis against him. Joey should AA. IF Nolf isn’t 80%, joey could have a title chance.
165: Flynn has a solid season, unseeded. Great news for him is drawing the #14 to open, which is about as good as you could hope for. Another meat grinder. Probably not an AA, but can win a few.
174: Lewis #3 despite being undefeated. Not even a slight. Given both above him are monsters and also undefeated. Quarters get tough, where Bo Jordan should be. Time to see just how much better Lewis has gotten this year. Should AA.
184: Great frosh season for #15 Marriott. Win a few would be a good tournament. Probably not an AA.
197: Miklus got the short end of the stick, the #6. Still in the same quarter I thought he would get though, with Haught of VT at #3, who has a really tough 2nd round draw. Miklus pinned him, but was getting beat badly earlier this year. Also got his 6th year waiver approved, so he will be back next year. Should AA. Most wide open weight. Willie has a chance to win a title, but has to be on top of his game.
285: no qualifier. Good recruit coming in out of Staley (kc) though.
Team: should be in the hunt for a team trophy (top 4). If things go poorly for Ohio state and penn state, we could sniff the hunt for the title. Probably not, but a team trophy is a realistic shot.

Brian Smith and the wrestling team never get the recognition they are due. Consistently great. Nothing but good news coming out of that team.
re: How are people opposing the food box proposal?
Posted by 5thTiger on 2/14/18 at 10:37 am
Too many problems. Would be cheaper and easier to just tweak current system. Whole host of problems would emerge: the food itself would have to be non-perishable, which limits the healthy foods that can be included a la fruits and veggies. Storage systems. Delivery would be a nightmare, especially for those who are homeless and or move all the time. Prime for tampering/whole other legal problems. Costs are certainly going to be higher.
One of those things that you think, “oh that makes sense”, until you actually get into the weeds of how it would work, or not work rather

Just off the jump you can see: 1. Premise is incredibly flawed. Judging entire races for admission into a magnet school. That’s retarded. 2. Poor sample: 3. Methods are shite.
So yeah. Should be criticized.

One got a restraining order. But it seems from what is reported that since they were Mormon, they went to their church for guidance.
Once you get past a certain point, criminal prosecution is very tough...and that is probably what any decent lawyer would have told them if they did later on.
It’s a fine line on how to tell people if charges weren’t filed almost immediately. I’m not going to pretend to have the answers, but at least for the White House, the standard (has usually been) much higher than other employers. Obviously not the case anymore. But it’s not like they were silent about it.

Lack of vetting=\=lack of due process. Two ex-wives with photo proof of abuse isn’t exactly who you should put up as an example of a guy without due process. Criminal prosecution is not a requirement for something to have happened

How many times does it take for you to understand that isn’t what I said? I’ve already schooled you on this multiple times, and you continue like you are on a loop or something. You are like the mentally challenged kid at school who learned a catch phrase and continues to use it out of place and out of context, not to mention just being wrong.
Once again, totally fricking irrelevant to the topic.
Of course, I wouldn’t expect you to have any sort of intelligent comment on the topic, so I can’t say I’m surprised you fell back to a catchphrase default setting

Chairs on NINE committees are done. NINE! Not just weak committees either. Budget, appropriations, judiciary, oversight are just a few. That is a massive power vacuum. You thought Boehners ouster was Big, this means massive changes next Congress. Total reshaping of the political landscape
Underestimated Narrative

What type of candidates replace these record numbers of “retirements”. Multiple seats on House GOP Oversight opening up.
Do Dems pick up a lot? Are GOP replacements legit? Do they fall into Freedom Caucus or go with mainline GOP?
This kind of turnover can really shake things up.

A focus group tested term used by the coal industry to keep themselves relevant.

Wow. Big news regardless of what you think of him. Was a big player. Doubt his poli career is done. But we’ll see. Lots of GOP members with clout calling it quits this cycle

Could it be that he is on the Fox NEWS Channel? I don’t mind spin, but I do mind The outright lies and verifiable incorrect info they use, ie: pizza gate. They have taken spin to a place that isn’t reflective of reality in some cases, and that can be dangerous.
Rhetoric matters. Pizza gate gunman. CNN caller threatens to massacre people.

Bit of both. Medicare/Medicaid, Civil Rights, Voting Rights, sincere investment in education, Thurgood Marshall, good economy.
Those are some major accomplishments, impossible in our current climate.
People didn’t like him, sure, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t successful

There’s really no way to judge it’s accuracy behind the screenwriting, but most of the points seem to be confirmed by others comments about him.
He was a legislative genius, AND knew how to play ball. Not many of those anymore. He truly did care for the country; I’d guess it had to do with his upbringing and how he became a teacher before politics.
It does bring to light the MLK tapes. Pretty crazy most Americans didn’t know that stuff.
One of the greatest presidents ever on the domestic front. Got a substantial sympathy time from JFK, but knew how to handle the legislative parts.
Unions had a lot more to do with it than just strong arming Humphrey, but it’s pretty close on most things.

No, I didn’t claim anything in regards to “intelligent” people voting for Hillary. Plenty of stupid people did too. In fact, I’ve stated that I think 90% of America is massively under informed in regards to voting.
How is this different than the MSM? Journalistic standards and practice. This is an opinion piece...a dubious one at that. If you’ve ever been near politics or journalism, you know that anonymous sources are a must in order to get information. There is a difference between news, and opinion shows. The problem is when opinion shows like Maddow & Hannity masquerade as full on news shows. They can do some good investigative work, but should be viewed under those lenses. That is vastly different than network news and programs like 60 minutes.
This opinion piece is not good. Good opinion pieces place context over another issue with at least some level of established fact. This does not do that. This is his “experiences”, with no context, and no chance for rebuttal because it is so generalized. Like my stupid example saying “bhtiger hates me because I’m a veteran, and that is my experience, so you can’t dispute it”. Except I would say, at least one person I know hates me because I’m a veteran. Another hates me because I have brown hair. All things I can surmise, because I have an opinion, that may not have actual basis in reality.
See this piece for what it is, trash. If you want to use an opinion piece regarding hypocrisy, there are decent ones out there. Particularly, the idea that pro-life Dems would be shoves our of the party. Plenty of high ranking party people have written such pieces, using the examples such as party messaging and platform ON TOP OF their opinion. This creates the context necessary to have good discussion.
But this piece sucks. Take off your Team Trump glasses, and you’ll see that it does. Thinking later, this reads like a high school girl saying “they hate me cause I’m popular and their not”. It’s just so bad.

1. Because this is an attention seeking piece that adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. It is click bait. I question these “experiences” ever happened, and I 100% question that he would surmise the reasonings behind the alleged slights from friends and family.
2. As ive stated before, it’s click bait that adds nothing, except fervor to the right. And I’ll say it, yep, I think he is a liar. I don’t want people to write this kind of bullshite. If you are, then yes, I want some specifics. Otherwise, I’m inclined to believe that it is nothing more than a puff piece for the right.
3. It implies his family was not accepting of his coming out as gay. And no, it doesn’t do a good job of highlighting hypocrisy. It plays to stupid platitudes with no relevant info.
His “experiences”, which may or may not have any bearing reality. Like my example saying that you hate me because I’m a veteran. That would be “my experience”. Which is the entire premise upon which he/I would operate.
This isn’t good for calling out hypocritical statements about inclusion. Opinion pieces aren’t generally for that.

1. The headline would suggest his family/friends were not tolerant of him being gay. Seeing as they are, it’s inclusion is both confusing and irrelevant to the point the author is attempting to write about. This board claims to hate when people use their sexuality/status as a qualification.
2. You don’t enjoy the irony about the BA in painting? I found it hilarious.
3. I hope you realize those are precisely the opinion based generalized stories I was referring. “Poor me; they don’t have time for me anymore because I’m a republican” Are you kidding me? These are all things he himself deduced, obviously...which of course, is an opinion. Take this example: “everyone on TD board hates me because I’m a veteran”. 100% an opinion I could have, and write about, with a click bait title.
This is such a frustrating conversation. Your insistence on propping up a garbage piece, on a issue where we actually agree, is astounding. Pieces like this are horrible, and deserve to go straight into the trash.
If you’ll notice, HHM stopped criticizing after I pointed out the flaws, and the fact that I actually agree that liberals can be intolerant despite the rhetoric.
