FWIW this is what Dash thinks the lineup might be:

CF Nolan McCarthy (Kentucky)
2B Ryan Black (UT-Arlington)
3B Tre Phelps
1B Ryland Zabarowski (Miami-Oh)
LF Devin Obee (Duke)
RF Robbie Burnett (UNC-Asheville)
DH Slate Alford/Charlie Jones (Air Force)
SS Kolby Branch
C Daniel Jackson (Wofford)

Likely to also see:
UT Brennan Hudson (Ga State)
UT Christian Adams (FAU)
C Henry Hunter
UT Bryce Clavon (Fr)
UT Erik Parker (Fr)
UT Cade Brown (Fr)

Pitching
Friday: RHP Leighton Finely
Saturday: RHP Kolten Smith
Sunday: LHP Alton Davis (Bama)

Midweek and long weekend starters:
RHP TJ Quinn (Ole Miss)
RHP Zach Harris
RHP Matthew Hoskins
LHP Charlie Goldstein

Key relievers:
RHP Brian Curley (VCU)
RHP Brian Zeldin
RHP Davis Chastain (Ga State)
RHP Paul Farley (RFr)
RHP Zach Brown (Ohio State)
RHP Jordan Stephens (ABAC)
LHP Bradley Stewart (EKU)
LHP Collin Caldwell

Couple of things that stand out to me:
- Last year Goldstein was our only LHP on staff. With Caldwell back from injury and the addition of Stewart and Davis, we actually have some variety again

- We come into the year with basically 7 arms who could start games in a postseason format. I can’t remember the last time we had that kind of depth before first pitch of the year. Means a whole helluva lot for injury situations to know you can slot guys in without having to over rely on the bullpen.

- I’m sure we will play an all staff game here and there for the sake of getting guys work but… we really don’t have to.

Yeah, no more divisions this season with the addition of OU and Texas. We don’t play Carolina or Tennessee this year

Foley updates coming into full view now. We may finally hve us a legit ballpark fellas.

Hope it’s sooner than later that they move the scoreboard to left and build out Kudzu Hill as the student section on make this thing complete.

Reminders beyond the pitching lab and turf:
- Awning that covers the seats has now been extended all the way to the end of the original structure on both sides
- New, larger camera tower in center
- Home dugout has moved over to 3B side
- Opponent bullpen (our old one) now hs its own permanent indoor storage shed

I won't derail the thread by going on an anti artificial turf rant...I'll just say gross.

Also hate they used our dumb secondary logo instead of power G.

I’m not a turf fan in any sport but at this point I’m resigned to it. Wes wanted it, it’s installed, oh well.

The power G is actually built into the CF turf design. But I agree, hate the secondary logo and kind of wish they eft it off. Bulldog script looks nice so that’s something

Sounds like Dylan Goldstein is back for one more year with the Dawgs, NCAA ruling in JUCO years has given him an extra year to play. He struggled down the stretch but gives us a much needed experienced lefty bat with some power

- USA Today Coaches poll has us at #9
- SEC preseason poll has us finishing 6th in conference
- Slate Alford, Tre Phelps, and Alton Davis each named to the preseason All SEC Team
- Baseball America has bamed Tre Phelps and Kolten Smith as preseason All Americans

So could this team potentially compete for the SEC?

I mean, “compete” is a relative term. I don’t think we will win the SEC, but hosting a Super is not out of the question, IMO

There’s a quiet optimism among the beat writers and even some national guys that this team is deep and well rounded enough to make Omaha.

We likely aren’t going to beat out A&M or Tennessee for the SEC crown but I don’t think it unreasonable to think we repeat and maybe even improve upon what we did last year.

My prediction is there will be a lot of salty folks on the rant this year due to Phelps pimping the absolute shite out of a home run.

They’re always salty when we do well in baseball, we aren’t one of their anointed teams (LSU, Arkansas, Florida, Vandy, South Carolina, MSU, Ole Miss) and therefore don’t deserve consideration.

I'm picturing more of a Marshall Henderson type response to Phelps this year.

It’s funny to me because we have 6 trips to Omaha and a national title in my lifetime (same as Ole Miss) but because we haven’t been a consistent tourney team with a double decked stadium and nothing else to do in the Spring, we don’t count and don’t know ball (even though we are 1 of 5 teams in the conference that balances college with an in-state MLB team).

You can tell the rant baseball fandom is made up of a bunch of dudes who were in HS/College from 2010-2013 by the way they still glaze South Carolina despite them not having returned to Omaha since their only national titles 13 years ago.

Feels like Tennessee has softened that baseball puritanism for us over the past 4 years. Phelps is swaggy but he’s hardly offensive compared to what Vitello’s bunch has been known to do
