OL - Hunter Erb

I initially had high hopes for Erb, but if he hasn't earned a starting job by now, it's unlikely that he ever will. Best of luck to him though.

We are in the running for Kentucky receiver Barion Brown, dude is explosive. Adding a special teams threat would be great.

In his three seasons at Kentucky, Brown saw action in 37 games, catching 122 passes for 1,528 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 41.3 yards per game. The versatile playmaker also added 29 rushes for 195 yards and two touchdowns and had five kick return touchdowns over that time.

Just saw where Micah Tease is hitting the portal. We had better get some good receivers out of it or we're going to be pretty thin again. The problem is finding stud WRs that want to come block DBs in the read-option.

The Portal officially opened today. Guess I was wrong about being as busy as last year, 14 to date compared to 18 last year.

I'd say you're not wrong or if wrong, not by much. 14 leaving vs 18 last year; maybe a few more can still decide to leave.

Feels like a bad look. Or I'm still not used to the revolving door of the portal era.

4 more announced today so that makes 18 which is equal to last year, I didn't see that coming but I guess that is college football now a days. Pretty much everyone in the conference is in double digit territory except for the teams headed to the playoffs, Arkansas is pushing 30 I believe.

Just expect that about half the roster will transfer in or out during a 4 year time period now. That’s the new normal of college football.

Hell, the ASU coach said he’s allowing kids who enter the portal to play in the playoffs just so he can have some depth.

Yep, unless you are a playoff team, it’s just how CFB is gonna be moving forward. And even playoff teams have guys entering the portal, just at a lower clip.

In other news, just barely A&M related, is that Tony Grimes is in the portal for the 3rd time looking for his 4th school.

UNC 20-22
A&M 23
UNLV 24 (initially was going to Michigan state)
2025????

That’s just too damn much for the portal, I’m all for giving a player an out or do-over, but at some point it just becomes ridiculous. Needs to be a cap at one free transfer and then you start sitting out a year like in the old days. Put some weight behind the decision to transfer.

And as another side note, dont know if it was discussed here at the time of Mack Brown’s firing, but Max Johnson is probably the first, and only player in NCAA history to play for 3 national championship winning coaches, who all got fired while he was playing under them. (Orgeron, Jimbo, & Mack). Thought that was a wild stat.

The whole thing is nuts. I'm not sure how much interest I have if it's just one big pickup game.

I get letting kids transfer on a coaching change. But there again, that should be the exception not the norm.

Why in the world would you take a HS kid as an OL prospect? It takes a year or two of training to get them physically ready, and then by year two they want to leave for time, or money because another team needs someone. I'm almost on the Lane Train of just buy mercenaries.

Real, actual, enforceable contracts have to happen.

Sounds like we're in good shape to land one of the best WRs available in the portal

The universities are deathly afraid of (correctly) treating the players like employees.

Until they do so, I doubt we'll see the type of contracts you're imagining

Connor now in too, no surprise. I’m really interested to see where he ends up and how he does.

A least one prediction for him to land at Houston. As desperate as schools are for a QB, seems like an indictment to fall down that far. I suppose it being a "hometown" school helps out

Taking the Kyle Allen route huh? Probably not a bad place for him to land, just would’ve thought he might have headed to a better team than UH.

I’ll be curious to see how he does. Kyle is still on an NFL roster these days, wonder if Connor can do the same eventually.

I find myself very pleased with Elko‘s portal work and his recruiting
