what is the best route ? Tried everything.
Even took 65 to Ala 14 in Prattville and cut over once. Real scenic, but got behind a funeral procession in 2004. Kind of an omen.

US 280 if you are leaving fairly early.

Not going to leave until at least Gameday is over.I'm not that much of a 'tailgater'.

You might luck out and miss traffic. Hell if I know. I used to go down on Friday afternoons and crash with my friends who went to Auburn ... too bad I don't have that luxury anymore.
I'm not gonna make it down for this one.

I have taken both routes several times and they are pretty much the same amount of travel time. It depends on what you want to do for 2 hours. Drive 75-80 on the interstate or drive 45-65 on the highway hoping you dont get pulled over by the countless number of cops that set up speed traps in all the little towns along the way.

Huh - takes longer to take 65/85 for me ... of course, it could just seem longer.

Well,if you didn't have to stop at every Stuckey's along the way and shop and browse it wouldn't take so long.

I bet the Harpersville City Hall was built with speeding ticket revenue.

I was leaning towards taking 280 as well, but was wondering if someone could tell me an earlier turn to take into Awe-barn, before the on that leads right into College Drive?? I'd like to bypass Tumored Corner, but only know how to do that if I come in from 85...

If taking 280, which is the quicker route, you can turn right at "the bottle" off of 280 onto HWY 147. Which will take you to the parkway.
Don't look for the bottle, cause it's been gone a LOONNNGGG time, but everyone still calls the turn, "the bottle".
Here's a wiki... Da Bottle
And do slow down through Harpersville, Childersburg, Sylacauga, Alexander City, Jacksons Gap, Dadeville, and Camp Hill. A lot of their annual revenue comes from Auburn gameday traffic. Only Harpersville has a drastic speed drop though.

Also, I think they are doing construction on I65/I85 in Montgomery, probably going to be bumper to bumper.

what part of 59 are you comming from? If Northeast of Birmingham, take 59 to US Hwy 231, or 20 towards Pell City, then get on 231 South into Harpersville. This cuts out most of the lights and traffic on 280 from 459 to Chelsea. Would definatly watch out for the speed traps in Harpersville, Childersburg, and Sylacauga, after that you shouild be clear sailing. Made it from Harpersville to Aubyland in an hour for a baseball game this past spring, so you should be good.

FWIW, from Birmingham, US-280 to Auburn, AL is 33 miles shorter than I-65 to I-85, then I-85 to Auburn, AL.
