They only earn that 5th star once committed to Alabama. A 5-star that decommits from Bama loses the 5th star as well.

And yet On3 has Bama's 2025 class ranked #2 in the country.

Crazy how much talent there is outside of the state of Alabama. Hats off to DeBoer and his staff for identifying that talent and securing commitments.

I realize this is meant to be a troll, but I bet if you were to ask any Bama fan if they’d be thrilled with this as their first class post-Saban, they’d 100% say yes.

The West Coast focus is clear with six commits from California. They also have commits from Ohio, Kansas, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. How many of those guys stick around in the transfer portal era if they don't see playing time right away? Your instate guys are more likely to stick it out, and Freeze is taking over their base.

It’s a new era. Alabama, Georgia & tOSU have the 3 most talented rosters in CFB this season. None of them really prioritize in-state kids from what I can tell. Oregon’s now following the same blueprint.

Alabama recruits nationally.

Auburn recruits in their backyard.

You got actual data to back up that assertion, or just assumptions?

The only big concern with DeBoer was recruiting. Was prepared for a #15ish class without much fire power in year 1. The fact that we've signed as many high end players as we have, regardless of where they are from, is a very welcome sight.

I have faith they'll figure out the in-state thing to some extent in the next few years as they develop relationships, but Freeze is a really good recruiter who has lots of experience in the Deep South and in Alabama. The good news is we've shown we can go sign elite players elsewhere and beat out elite programs for them.

TL/DR - Expectations for year 1 of recruiting were not super high and they've been blown out of the water by the staff, in-state or not.

I'm no Bama fan but I believe they are sitting at number 1 in the recruiting rankings? I'm sure they'd love to lock Alabama down but he seems to be doing just fine at the moment.

The primary reasons players leave are playing time, coaching staff changes and money with whether they are instate or not down the list. If you are going to focus primarily instate with some rainbow gum drop fantasy believing that by primarily targeting instate guys it will somewhat protect you in the transfer portal, you will be sadly mistaken. Any fractional advantage you think you will get related to transfers when it comes to "state loyalty" you probably lose more from missing out on recruits on the other side of the country.

Is it really smart to start a “your recruiting sucks” troll thread against a team that currently has the #2 ranked recruiting class? It seems like a poorly thought out strategy.
