In the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) had a record-breaking performance, sending a record 14 of its 16 teams to the tournament, with 4 teams making the Elite Eight and 2 making the Final Four.
Here's a breakdown of the SEC's performance:
Record-Breaking Representation:
The SEC shattered the previous record for most teams from a single conference in the NCAA tournament field, with 14 teams qualifying.
Elite Eight & Final Four:
Four SEC teams advanced to the Elite Eight, and two of those teams, Auburn and Florida, reached the Final Four.
Final Four Contenders:
The SEC's top two teams, Auburn and Florida, faced each other in the Final Four, with Florida ultimately winning and advancing to the national championship game.
National Championship Game:
Florida defeated Houston in the national championship game, securing the national title for the Gators.
SEC Teams in the Tournament:
The 14 SEC teams that made the tournament were No. 1 Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Missouri, Mississippi State, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Record Payout:
The SEC will receive a record $70 million payout from the NCAA Tournament.
Record wins:
The SEC went 23-13 in the Tournament, the most ever wins by a conference.
NonConf Dominance:
In the 2024-25 season, SEC teams boasted an impressive 185-23 non-conference record, a winning percentage of 88.9%, marking a highly dominant performance.
Conference play:
The one knock on the season was the SEC going .500 in conference play. You can't win 'em all.
There is no more denying the SEC's basketball dominance

7 teams in Sweet 16 and 8 teams in top 25 in AP final poll.
Two of the SEC losses were to other SEC teams.
Dominance.
Nod to the Big 12. Houston and Tech were for real.
Tough conference competition makes for tough teams. Florida and Houston both battle tested as was Auburn. Duke had four close games this year and lost them all.

Would be hilarious if it's either LSU or USCe.

None of them.
Bama seems likely.

LSU and South Carolina appreciate the welfare money. Maybe in the next decade we can contribute and earn our money.

Big East sent three teams to the Final Four in 1985, hoss.

They bashed Tenn's skull in. But yes, Auburn, Bama, and Florida beat them.

I agree, the SEC was amazing, the best ever. Let's just call the current era Modern Times for this analogy. When I was a kid, I think in 86...the old Big East had 3 teams in the Final Four. Nova beat MemphisSt, then took down Georgetown ( who defeated Providence in the semis) for the title. That is the only comparison I could see that approaches what the SEC did this year.

10-11 Alabama went 12-4 in conference, runner up to Florida for the regular season title, won a game in the conference tournament and still got left out of the tournament. It really is amazing to see how for the conference has come.
