SEC Umpires

Officiating has always been controversial but it appears to me, this year has been especially bad.
It appears the SEC has gone the route of hiring failed professional umpires to officiate our games.
Guys like Jeff Macias, Scott Kennedy and Wayne Morris, just to name a few are showing why their contracts were not renewed by professional baseball and for some reason hired by the SEC.
What happened to growing umpires from high school on to small college and then to D1?
Instead we appear to be getting professional failures.
Discuss?

My team sucks so I'll blame the refs. Come on man, don't be an L7U fan.

I've seen some bullshite called strikes or lack thereof and some garbage calls at the plate or 1B. Not sure if it's really worse than past years but what has really galled me has been the excessive number of replays that have overturned calls on the field (meaning get it right the first time) or, worse, when they view a replay that everyone agrees is pretty obvious what the call should be but the umps go against conventional wisdom without explanation.

The head of SEC umpires is a Louisiana guy. I'm sure y'all two could have a conversation that would go on the better part of the day.

Jeff Macias is Penn Wagers.

"Oh you were in the majors? Ok you have a job!"
Just putting in minimal effort to hire someone for the league that isn't very important in their eyes.

Yeah it's that good. No I usually just lurk during game threads to enjoy the schadenfruede. I don't think the SEC has that bad of refs though. If you have a better team/strategy the zebraa won't matter.
You talking football in a baseball thread?

I know it might be strange to a Bama fan but there are more sports than football.

The strike zone has been horrible.

Strike zone this year has been horrendous and I will conceede that our ace gets these calls as well. Not sure how anyone can hit a 95 mph fastball that's 8 inches off the plate but it's been a strike most of the year. The back door curve ball has been the pitch these guys have no control over. If its even remotely close to either batters box its been a strike...its like watching little league baseball.

It’s fricking baseball season you buffoon. Shite, we know Alabama is just a one trick pony, but get with the season.

Here’s what you need to know about SEC baseball officiating. The home team is going to get most of the calls.

None of these guys ever made the majors. AAA (possibly did some ML games in spring training or vacation call ups) was the highest some of these guys got but there was a reason they were let go. Meanwhile most of the American Legion, High school, lower level college guys have been the best.
Look, it is a tough job but those former professional umps seem to have bad attitudes.
Also, letting the ump who made a challenged call, review it himself is pretty dumb.
