SEC States with a 10 pt grading scale, in HS

Relevant for student athletes qualifying at SEC schools. SC will switch over to a 10 pt scale from a 7 pt scale. It used to be 93-100 was an A, 85-92 was a B, 77-84 was a C, etc.... Now they'll have 90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, 70-79 is a C, etc....

Jesus, 10 points? As if all the Honors and AP GPA boosts in high school weren't enough for those kids...

Huh. The 10 point grading scale was how my HS did it. I just assumed that was the norm. Now I'm wondering if we were defying the Education Overlords of Mississippi.
I'd check the link for confirmation, but I'm getting a dead end "The article requested cannot be found" message. Not that it necessarily matters. GPAs are based on number grades and while an "A" would be a 4.0, admissions might pay attention to the actual grade you got too, especially since the scoring would be standardized for all instate applicants. They'd know perfectly well why applicant GPAs suddenly started rising.

I always had a 10 point scale. But your GPA wasn't calculated on a 4.0 scale like it is in college. Your GPA was on a scale of 1-100. But if you took AP classes, you could get over 100. At my high school, if you wanted to be top 10% of your class to get automatic acceptance into the state schools, you had to have a 102 GPA.

I remember an A being 95-100 until my junior year in a MS public school.
It was changed to a 10 point scale because they felt students in other districts held an advantage when it came to scholarships and such.

Man, experience is a killer in education. Yes, there are some particularly talented one-and-done dumbasses, but it's the upperclassmen dumbasses that stay calm and collected in situations that call for even the grosses stupidity.

Alabama high schools use the 10 pt system.
UA used the +/- system.
>97 was A+, counted as 4.33 GPA
93-96 was A, counted as 4.0 GPA
<93 was A-, counted as 3.67 GPA

Yeah I think someone already asked this question but does that mean we are switching back to the 4.0 scale? While we did have the weird grading scale we did give extra preference to whether a student was in honors, AP, or IB classes by grading on a 5.0 scale.

We had 6/7 in Louisiana.
100-94= A
93-86=B
85-78=C
77-70=D
below 70 = F
Honors classes had 10 point

7 point scale? Never heard of it. 10 point scale helps students...but Missouri uses +/- scale. Although I think it varies by school district. But everywhere goes on 10 point scale basically. 90+ is some form of A, 80+ B, etc.

Etc. for each level.
It sucks for the 97-100 students who don't get any extra credit for what should be an A+.

A 95 was the lowest "A" in Louisiana until probably 2004-2005 or so. Then it dropped to 93 IIRC
