Kirby's dad had a fall in New Orleans and broke his hip. He had emergency surgery but per a statement from UGA, passed away this morning. Thoughts and prayers to the Smart family.

Don’t even know how he coached that game between his dad and gathering the team after terrorist attack. RIP Sonny

Dummy here, why do broken hips have a low survival rate?

RIP, Mr. Smart.

That's sad. I had a doctor tell me that truth most of the time is that someone broke their hip and then fell. He said it's the break that causes them to fall.

One reason why people need to value weight training and not just walking around for exercise, especially as they get older (40+).

The right break can cause such a shock to heart- nervous system that the body shuts down.
If you are with in driving distance of your father go by where he is and give him a huge and tell him you love him. I sure wish I could.

It’s really more of an age issue.

The recovery from a broken hip takes such a huge toll on the body. The older someone is, the more difficult it is to physically withstand the recovery process.

That is my nonmedical opinion.
