What if I told you that Bear coached in a different era and wouldn't be able to field a team on a D2 field at this point in time. Same concept as saying Babe Ruth was the greatest baseball player to ever live, it reflects the same ignorance as Bear's quote you provided.

What if I told you that 2015 Alabama won the national championship the same way 1979 Alabama did?
That would be a true statement. What Bryant is referring to in that quote is a strong defense, a solid running game, and exceptional fundamentals and discipline wins out every time.
While Alabama is no longer running the wishbone they were still running the football last year. We controlled the clock in most of our games and our defense was among the elite defenses in the country last year.
The only real difference between '79 Alabama and '15 Alabama were the types of formations used to distribute the football.
Bryant would still succeed in the modern era because he showed a willingness to adapt to the changing game uncharacteristic for his era. The man coached during a time when football was going through radical changes. He remained a winner throughout because he changed with the times.

What amuses me is that the dude who said Bryant wouldn't win today,is a Miss State fan, State lost their first game to USA. Coached by Joey Jones, who played for Bear Bryant. Bear's players are still beating Miss State to this day(in the coaching sense).
