Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin sides with Nico Iamaleava after messy Tennessee exit

What is really going on? Why is Kiffin now siding with Nico?

Initially, it was believed to be a contract dispute. However, Iamaleava's camp later clarified that the situation stemmed from frustrations with the Vols' offense. Last season, Tennessee's offensive line struggled, and Iamaleava himself had an up-and-down performance.
Iamaleava is now expected to join the UCLA Bruins, returning home for his next season. However, a deal between the two sides appears to be far from finalized.
"Iamaleava's now looking at UCLA as his next destination, but for far less cash - and even that is far from a done deal," Camden Markel wrote.
Until Friday, only Iamaleava's camp had spoken publicly. That changed when the redshirt sophomore took to Instagram to finally break his silence.
"D*mn I tried to sit out and throw the playoff game too?" Iamaleava posted. "These boys just make me laugh, man ain't no way."
Now, Tennessee is scrambling to find a quarterback this late into the spring transfer window. Former Tennessee head coach and current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was asked about the situation and came to Iamaleava's defense.
"I don't think it's really fair to take shots at him when all of the facts and details of the situation aren't out there and seem to just be in favor of the program's side," Kiffin told the media.
Kiffin isn't exactly beloved by Tennessee fans, which might explain his choice of words. The Ole Miss coach is known for his trolling nature and rarely misses an opportunity to stir the pot. Still, he remains one of the few public figures to take Iamaleava's side in the messy breakup with Tennessee.

It’s in his best interest to paint Tennessee in a bad light and side with the “players”

How is that siding with Nico? It sounds like lane is both sidesing the argument to me.

Chris Low is the best when it comes to having the scoop especially at Tennessee. He says Nico was wanting 4 million, that’s the truth. They can try to spin whatever BS they wanna spin. Facts are facts

What about an ex-Georgia quarterback that transferred to Miami?

Yeah he wants 4 million to play behind a shite line. That’s a reasonable thing to ask for. Fix the o line or give me more $$$.

I can promise you the offensive line and WRs he was going to be playing with at Tennessee are better than what he will have at UCLA.

Kiffin wasn't siding with Nico. He said that he didn't know the complete situation and wasn't going to commit on it!!

Yep! But he wouldn't have to face those SEC teams' tough defense.
I never did like Heupel when he was the OC at Mizzou.

They have Ohio State and Penn State on the schedule. UT’s schedule is pretty soft this season.
Also, UT went out and got 2 starting guards from Arizona/ND plus the #1 OT in the country (expected to start at RT). Lance Heard should actually be in shape this season at LT and is a 5 star talent. Center is the one position on the line with uncertainty. So it’s not like they refused to get him help on the offensive line.
I would’ve liked to see them get another WR, but they may snag a guy or 2 in this portal period there.

All of the quotes and the title are from the article. The title is misleading.

You guys are funny. The QB that led your team to the playoffs transferred to a school in a better conference and yet y’all act like your team is better than the team he went to. I guess we’ll see. Neither Tenn or UCLA will be in any conversations for anything this year so we’ll see which does better. And wins and losses are all that count. But I’m sure Tenn will claim to be the best 7-5 team ever.

Didn’t he have a stud running back transfer out and then land on a NC squad? If anything, Kiffin put his foot down less publicly. So, in reality, what’s he going to say publicly that’s not coach speak?

You disliked having a good offense?

Heupel's offense was good against teams that had bad defense but struggled against teams that had good defense. This is why I wanted him gone. The OL did nothing. He wanted to throw the ball downfield half of the time. Can't do that if you don't have a good OL to protect the quarterback from getting sacked or forced to throw the ball away more often.

Most offenses have a difficult time with good defenses.

The worst degradation of the trade I spent two-thirds of my life in is clickbait headlines.
