i was wondering if any of you ole miss fans know when this chant originated. at the high school i went to their is a football coach name patrick ball, he played baseball at ole miss and i believe he has the wooden bat home run record there. after each game our football team wins he gets them together and they do the cheer except they exchange ole miss by damn for hokes bluff by damn.i asked him if he knew when it came about and he didnt know. im sure noone else here likes the cheer but i love it

Ever seen the first episode of Band of Brothers?
When they march up the hill, you can hear them sing a similar rendition.
It's exact origin is unknown, and yes, there is a drink called the hotty toddy.
Apparently students came up with the cheer back in the 1920's or 1930's and that Hotty Toddy was a mocking version of the phrase "hoity toity" in response to Ole Miss students and alumni being called 'hoity toity' by students and fans of rival schools. Just one of those things that has been around for a long time and has stuck.
There is no definite history, tho.

The rumor that I have heard is that William Faulkner climbed to the top of the Lyceum, drunk off his arse, and screamed it at the top of his lungs. But like I said that is just a rumor and I don't know if there is any truth to it.
