Legendary LSU athletic trainer Martin Broussard created the sports drink in 1958 after discovering that the salt tabs and soft drinks consumed by his athletes weren’t adequately replacing their electrolytes.

That’s how Quickick, originally called Bengal Punch, was born. Beall says Broussard shared his recipe with friend and University of Florida researcher Robert Cade, who then went on to develop Gatorade in 1965. Cade died a very rich man, with his drink dominating food market shelves all over the world. Forbes has in years past placed Gatorade among the world’s 40 most valuable sports brands.
What the hell Gators?
First you claim Tom Petty because he mowed around a tree a few times, then we find out that your other claim to fame was not even your guy's creation?
What else are y'all lying about?

Sounds like Martin Broussard is the Winklevos twins, and Robert Cade is Mark Zuckerburg. He just took a good idea and made it better.
Good ideas are created.. Great ideas are stolen.

Is this anything like "Seminole firewater"?

I had Robert Cade as a nephrology instructor at UF and the years of work he put into developing what would become Gatorade were impressive. He would collect the football players sweat during practice and distill it down to get the right formula for them to drink. His first few recipes were so fowl tasting they had to force the players to drink it and they were puking all over the practice field. IDK where the idea that he became a rich man from this comes from but as with all University backed research all the patent and loyalty rights went to the University.

Congrats LSU, you can combine with FSU and call yourselves Bitch State U, East and West campuses. I see you must be still hurting for cash. FSU is always broke and getting bailed out by the state of Florida. Maybe you can get in on that.

Malt liquor and fortified wine are not “sports drinks.”

Yeah, because athletic trainers and doctors at schools hundreds of miles apart, back in the 1950s, were routinely friends and often shared recipes for drink mixes.
This is 100% bullshite.
And Tom Petty absolutely grew up in Gainesville. People drive by his old house. His song lyrics refer to Gainesville. He was in an early band called Mudcrutch and there are locals in Gainesville in that band, still around today.
And nice link.
Congrats you have no credibility.

LOL
"The drink received its first real test in the Gators' 1965 game against the LSU Tigers football team; the Tigers faded in the 102 °F (39 °C) heat of the second half and the Gators did not."
