In 1999, Auburn destroys LSU in Tiger Stadium 41-7. They smoke victory cigars on the field after the game. Perhaps a new tradition to follow all future wins in Death Valley... Lets see what happens next!
-2001 (LSU 27 – Auburn 14) – Auburn decides to stomp on the eye at mid-field during the pre-game. Damon Duval of Auburn, tries to interrupt the end of the halftime show for the Golden Band From Tiger Land… The game, doesn’t go so well for Auburn.
-2003 (LSU 31 – Auburn 7) – An absolute spanking. The game is over in the first quarter.
-2005 (LSU 20 – Auburn 17 OT) – John Vaughn, prolific Auburn kicker who would at one time become the school’s all-time leading scorer and a Lou Groza Award finalist, misses 5 field goals. The game is decided by 3 pts.
-2007 (LSU 30 – Auburn 24) – Back when we thought the “Mad Hatter” was a gutsy play caller rather than just incompetent at time management:
-2009 (LSU 31 – Auburn 10) – About as boring a game as they come. Elite pocket passer, Jordan Jefferson, would carve up the Auburn defense for 242 yards and 2 TDs (86.4 QBR). Auburn QB Chris Todd would finish with 47 yards and an INT (3.9 QBR). Couldn’t even find a gif, this game was so bad.
-2011 (LSU 45 – Auburn 10) – This game would yield one of my favorite sequences ever in Tiger Stadium. Already up 21-3, LSU would go: Touchdown, Fumble on the kickoff, Touchdown, Big hit on kickoff, Pick 6. Just like that its 42-3… Thoughts and prayers to Onterio McCalebb’s family, may he rest in peace.
-2013 (LSU 35 – Auburn 21) – Keep in mind when reading this, that this Auburn team played in the National Championship Game… Jeremy Hill would rush for 62 yards and 2 TDs before he was tackled for the first time in this game. This game also brought us this fantastic moment:
-2015 (LSU 45 – Auburn 21) – The Jeremy Johnson hype train rolls into Baton Rouge. However this game would turn into the “Pick a Leonard Fournette gif Game”. I’ll go with arguably the most iconic:
-2017 (LSU 27 – Auburn 23) – 96.2% Win Probability for Auburn in the first half. One last chance to avoid blowing a 20-0 lead. You would really hate to see that…
-2019 (LSU 23 – Auburn 20) – LSUs toughest matchup in 2019, this game was really only ever in doubt for one moment. Tied just before halftime, Derek Stingley Jr. would make this incredible INT. This would be the last game Derek Stingley Jr. would ever play in Tiger Stadium

Didnt he bounce one off the uprights with time expiring to try and clinch the win as well?

Despite the lopsided record in Baton Rouge, this is IMO the SEC's best "new" rivalry that came about due to expansion.
Just so many epic games. To me, the sweet spot of this rivalry was 2004-2007. Four very well played slugfests that each time the home team barely eked out a victory. Just a great, great series.
It's a shame this year's game is sort of lost int he shuffle of so many other better games. If not for two non-conference road losses between the two teams, this would probably be a Top 10 matchup.

Gus should’ve been fired after that game.

Here's the other thing about this rivalry.... it's almost always either a nail-biter or a complete blowout...
**Since 1992, the series has consisted of 29 games. LSU leads the series 16-13
**16 of the 29 games were decided by a touchdown or less (9 won by LSU; 7 won by Auburn)
**9 of the 29 games were decided by 3 touchdowns or more (4 won by LSU; 5 won by Auburn)
**Only 4 games have been decided by somewhere in between... 8-20 points.
Despite LSU's 3-game lead in the series since 1992 conference expansion, Auburn leads the poitns battle during the same period of time, 638-619.
That makes the average score since 1992:
Auburn: 22.0
LSU: 21.3
Overall, its just an extremely competitive series which makes LSU's complete dominance in terms of W/L in Baton Rouge so baffling.

Either way it’s going to be a tasty melt after the game.

Dayum.
Speaking of '92, that was a crazy, wild game that I'll never forget. JP game. Jamie Howard's first appearance for LSU. I believe he was the 3rd QB they used that day. He came in with the score Auburn 27, LSU 7 and somehow managed to put LSU on top 28-27 with only 1:43 left. But that was enough time for Auburn to get into position for the game winning FG.
Good recap here:

and for their efforts Auburn received a pre-kickoff 15 yard penalty for which LSU took advantage and did a successful opening kickoff on-side kick.

No. It was in OT to tie it.

I have never been able to figure out why that Auburn DB decided his best chance at tackling Fournette was to awkwardly jump over his head.
