One of the biggest perks, though, is the valuable platform on network television with ABC. SEC doubleheaders on ABC may become quite common, and there are likely to even be tripleheaders too, with kickoffs at noon, 3:30 and 7. While the league will have a weekly 3:30 p.m.

ABC broadcast, its best game doesn’t always have to occupy that slot, Magnus said. It could shift to prime time. For instance, he knows that LSU’s fan base prides itself on the tradition of night games at Tiger Stadium. “We are going to be fan friendly and flexible,” Magnus said.

I think that is the greatest outcome of the deal. I like the fact the SEC is all under one umbrella.

Gary Danielson didn't stomp a mudhole in Tenn's arse for 16 years.

Very good read.

Not too certain how much I'll miss Danielson. He has an excellent understanding of football, but he's just never resonated with me. I'msure it'scosting him sleep. Maybe I compare too many color or play by play guys with "Woah NELLY!"

The theme music though, is iconic. The big10 does not deserve.

ESPN/Disney has contaminated nearly everything they have touched over the last decade, but they're going to respect the traditions and culture of the SEC? Ooookay

ESPN is largely staffed with northern, big-city types who neither understand nor particularly like college football. The drive to further erode the college game into a cheap NFL-lite knockoff is only going to get worse. We're already expanding the playoffs to a ridiculous degree, threatening to render a lot of end of season traditional rivalry games meaningless. Speaking of traditional rivalries...

College football has done a good enough job of driving a stake in these games itself over the last 20 or so years (with a heaping helping from ESPN, to be honest). But the pell mell rush to form these concentrated super conferences will just about finish them off.

What I took away from that article was toward the end, where it was said SEC offered $300 million price tag for CBS to keep the 1st choice 3:30 SEC game. CBS walked away, and ended up paying the Big Ten $350 million for the 3rd choice in games.

Sounds like CBS are the ones who fricked up. Not Sankey.

Interesting that ESPN is working on a new theme song to replace the iconic CBS song.

They better hire John Williams to write it.

The thing that makes the CBS song iconic is because it was on air for 30 years and fans associate their adrenaline and anticipation with it. One does not simply write an iconic song. During the first CBS SEC 3:30 broadcast, fans weren't getting hard nipples from the intro song. It took decades for that Pavlovian response to develop.

It never made sense to me why CBS is paying more for the third tier Big Ten game than the first tier SEC game. Literally says the SEC would've kept with CBS if they had gotten the Big Ten offer.

With that being said bye bye Gary and commercials every 5 seconds. So long

CBS is paying the B1G more for a secondary game than it gave the SEC for its first-rate or premiere game. The CBS and B1G have a bright future.

The Sooners have a history of noon (Eastern) kickoffs. I'm sure they'll want to keep that going.

I remember the 2 SEC championships we played in it was embarrassingly biased. No emotion on big Mizzou plays always trying to find fault with what we were doing. It was painful to watch.

Very dumb. Watching B1G games is like watching paint dry.

ESPN would be better off paying a royalty to Kenny Wayne Shepard for Blue on Black as their intro song for the Disney 3:30 Game of the Week.
