In 2016 Tennessee vs UGA, All Hail The Prettiest Hail Mary Ever Thrown

It's too bad it was ruined ten seconds later by Josh Dobbs. No one remembers that pass but it was a beauty. Tennessee had the game well in hand, had the Dawgs on their heels, and that QB you guys later benched turned it around on a dime.
What a clutch performance.

What a clutch performance.

Hasn't Georgia reeled off 7 straight wins since then?
Odd that you would bring this up.

Damn, 2016.
Pre-COVID, pre-NIL, pre-transfer portal. Seems like a different time.
Got a clip of a UTK win since then?

You're taking offense at kind words about a beautiful pass by an opponent?
Fking Georgia fans lol.
So insecure.
Just click the big arrow, Einstein. Don't worry, I've done the thinking for you.

You had to go back to 2016 to find a reason to compliment Georgia's quarterback play? Take a look at highlights from every single Georgia/Tennessee game since then and you'll find plenty of reasons to be impressed by the Bulldogs. The Vols...not so much.

UGA's pass wasn't a hail mary. A hail mary is when you throw a pass up for grabs into a group and hope your guy comes down with it.
It was a deep route that was open. It wasn't throwing a long pass into a large group and praying your guy came up with it. Ridley just beat his man and made a deep catch.
Tennessee's pass was a hail mary. There were about 10 guys from both teams in a group and UT's prayer was answered by their guy managing to come down with it.

Just 5 short years later, we would be National Champs once again.
Really makes us appreciate how far we've come seeing this. Thanks!

Eh? Let's see. 19 seconds left. Own 50. Down 4, no chance that a field goal helps you.
Should I change the title to 'Prettiest Desperation Pass Ever Thrown'? Will that ease your insecurity?

You're welcome. It was a beautiful desperation pass. The prettiest desperation pass ever thrown. (sorry, I had to change it. one of your insecure brethren took offense).

I explained it in the post. Apparently you didn't bother to read.
The traditional "hail mary" is you run a bunch of receivers to the same part of the field and launch a pass to that spot and "pray" your guy catches it.
UGA wasn't running that. They weren't in a one pass left scenario. They ran a normal deep route tree. They had time to get a chunk of 30 yards or so and still stop the clock to take a shorter shot at the end zone so weren't throwing it up for grabs.
If it was a last ditch "hail mary" effort, UT wouldn't have had time to run a play of their own, because the game would have been over.
Ridley simply beat the DB covering him and Eason made a great pass. But the reason why there weren't a ton of DB's covering it is that it wasn't a hail mary. UGA had players running shorter routes that they would have taken instead if Tennessee's safety had gone to cover Ridley.

So, prettiest desperation pass ever thrown.
Okeydokey.
I don't want to offend any of our insecure UGA brethren.

Again, it wasn't a desperation pass. It was a normal route that was open.
UGA likely ran the same play call several times that game. In this one Tennessee messed up the coverage and UGA capitalized.
UGA had 2 more attempts left had that play failed. Maybe 3. They were looking to get a chunk of yards on that play, not necessarily throwing it to the end zone regardless. UT's safety just didn't take it away. Worked out for UT in the end with their hail mary (which actually was a hail mary). But UGA wasn't throwing up a desperation prayer on that play. They were taking whatever was open down the field because they didn't have to chuck it to the end zone yet.
