Is it easy for visitors to tailgate? Best restaurants/bars.

it will be a huge cluster f$%k. Square is where you want to be for restaurants and bars, it will be packed.
Best bet is to walk around and start up conversations and you will be invited to join someones tailgate.
I don't like crowds, but it will be a fun experience.

lol you’re not getting a spot in the grove if you haven’t planned it out yet.

Pay one of the Ole Miss pours $50/head to stand under a popup tent.
Eat cold chicken tenders with silverware and a fine china plate while Sally Lee from Quitman tries way too hard to be fancy.
Get yelled at by some Super Ole Miss nerd for being at "his" tailgate and eating "his" food.
Go to game in high school stadium.
Sit in terrible traffic trying to get out there after the game.

Love the Ole Miss campus
you'll have a good time there, bunch of my HS friends went there so I've spent a few weekends in Oxford and the surrounding areas

You will be able to find a tent to tailgate at if you don't have one already. There will be thousands of tents set up around campus, so don't fret. Find a group of people and just start chatting with them and you'll find a home for the day. I'd also recommend taking a trip to the Student Union next to The Grove; there are a number of restaurants there (Chic-Fil-A, Which Wich, McAlisters, etc.) and the Ole Miss Bookstore if you need to buy Ibuprofen, sunscreen, clothing, etc. There is a Raisin' Canes and a Steak 'n Shake in the Ole Miss Pavillion, and there is a Starbucks in the Ole Miss library building right behind the Lyceum. Plenty of food options on campus.
As far as best restaurants on The Square - if you want to get a nice dinner on The Square, I'd recommend looking at McEwens, Grillhouse, Boure, or Saint Leo. These places fill up quick, so I would call ahead and see if you can put in for a reservation today if possible. If you want something easier and not as fancy, I'd recommend Ajax, Proud Larry's, The Blind Pig, or The Growler. There are also some small, quicker places to eat like South Depot, Square Pizza, Oxford Burger Company, and Tallhatchie Gourmet that are great too.
As far as best bars on The Square - if you've ever researched the bar scene in Oxford, you've probably heard of The Library. It's my favorite bar in the city by far, but please keep in mind that its also everyone else's favorite bar and it will be packed almost the entire day. IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE LIBRARY, GO EARLIER DURING THE DAY, MEANING BEFORE THE GAME, AND GET A WRISTBAND. You'll pay a smaller cover charge (cover was $40 at 12:00PM and $100 at 7:00PM last weekend) and will be able to get in when you want to after the game. The Library does cut off new wristbands at a certain point, so don't wait to get one after the game is over.
I'd also recommend Funkys if you like good pizza and frozen daiquiris, the upstairs bars at Boure and City Grocery if you like a cozier, more adult vibe, and Rooster's for a nice patio/blues house experience. There is also a small, intimate, quiet bar called Bar Muse that is right across from the Library down an alley way that is great for couples. The other bars around The Square, like The Annex, Tango's, Round Table, and Rafters will generally have younger crowds, so I'd avoid those unless you yourself are young and want to hang with a younger crowd.
I think that's about it. Let me know if you have any questions.
Sources: My family has lived in Oxford for 20 years and I myself graduated from Ole Miss a few years ago. Still go back 8-10 times per year for sports events and holidays.

No tailgating. Just tents. The Grove and the Circle spots will have long been reserved.
You can find a grassy spot though adjacent to them somewhere, usually around the Lyceum across from the Circle there are spots big enough. But, you'll have to carry everything you need in with you from your parking spot.
Plenty of good people there that will invite you in. Just chat with them and offer them a beer.
It's crowded as hell, but a good time

Thanks, man. We have 8, all visiting Oxford for the first time. Really looking forward to it and I'll definitely use your advice. We rented a house fairly close to campus. Our biggest logistical problem is getting food and drinks to the Grove as we're taking a shuttle.

Prepare to be underwhelmed.

Heard for years what a great place it was and when I finally went, it was like the Griswolds pulling into Wally World.

I’ve been to Athens and seen what y’all call “tailgating” and it’s pretty lame.
A few hundred people scattered across campus. Low energy tame and boring.

I would recommend just doing your pre-gaming at the house for as long as you can before driving in for the game. Same thing post game. The Grove is overrated. You'll be packed in like sardines with a bunch of obnoxious Ole Miss fans turning their noses up at you. I have a relative who's an Ole Miss fan and he and his friends have quit going to the Grove. They just hang out at one of his friend's houses in Oxford until game time.
