Divisions or Pods

The SEC needs to figure out a way to make the SEC championship game mean something to both teams. In the past at least the loser could cry themselves to sleep on their division title. Now it is just a late season, high profile loss. Why not go back to east/west divisions, with two pods in each? Top ranked team from east plays top ranked team from west. If college football is trying to copy the NFL, two divisions with two 4 team pods is the answer.

What’s gonna have to happen is getting the SEC and Big Ten to just absorb the remaining big brands (ND, Miami, FSU, Clemson, etc.) and split off to form their own system.
Then you have something like a 4 or 6-team SEC playoff, a 4 or 6-team Big Ten playoff with the conference title games acting as national semifinals.
I honestly don’t know the point of conference title games if they’re not baked into the playoff structure.

Actually don’t hate these pods

They need to do something.
The whole rationale for a conference championship game was to be able to claim which division champ was the conference champ. Now, it is just about money. It doesn’t prove anything more than the tie breaker system that selects the participants does.

Easier solution. Cancel the CCG. Go back to pre-92 and have co-champs and let the CFB committee sort it out in the rankings. It only hurts the conference at this point.
Go to a 10 conference game schedule if you want more balance and equity is SoS.
The conference champion byes needs to end, as well.
Top 4 get byes. 5-12 play round one, frick the G5 DEI team, too, unless the committee puts them in the top 12 of last poll.

The SEC championship game generates far too much revenue for them to cancel it.

Unlikely one of them will be called Dixie. Should be but unlikely it would be. That said It is a good idea....

Its likely to generate even more revenue over the next couple of seasons when teams that ain't been it much if at all make it to the game. It is a big damned deal for the conference and unlikely to go away anytime soon.

Why is Mizz. still put in the East?
Posted on 11/18/24 at 12:39 pm to captdalton
Too many games already.

Arkansas and Missouri are a package deal. They need to be in the same pod.

Sure, both of them. Let each team have up to two annual rivalry games regardless of what division or pod they are in. Go to a 9 game conference schedule and each team can play every other team in their division plus two other conference games.
Alabama could still play Auburn and TN annually. LSU could still play Texas A&M and Arkansas. Tennessee could still play Georgia and Florida.

Needs to be divided on the AL/MS border so ship Alabama east and Missouri west then it's more balanced.

If they changed the name from pod to something else, I might could get on board.

Expand playoffs and get rid of cupcake games and permanent rivalries.

But I thought everyone here loved Tide pods. Delicious.
But you could call it league and division.

I like the pairings but screw that name. SWC is dead and needs to stay that way.

If elected, I'll ensure an end to off-season topics in the middle of the season.

You’re just confused as a South Carolina fan since this is the first time in years you have still been paying attention to football in November.
