Coaches are low key pushing for a CFB Commissioner…

And it seems that Nick Saban is their preferred candidate. Kirby Smart seconded James Franklin’s endorsement of Saban for CFB Commissioner in a press conference today.

No Thanks. Imagine the REC with Saban as commissioner

Not sure how “low key” it is given it’s happening in bowl press conferences, but definitely interesting.
Pretty sure Saban would have to take a major pay cut from his ESPN gig, though. Not sure if he’d be willing to do that or not. I vote Josh Pate if Saban declines.

It's a great idea but the biggest problem in college football structure has always been you have all these independent schools and conferences all operating on their own, it's not like the NFL where all the teams are legal entities within the same organization.
I don't ever see the small conferences (CUSA, Sun Belt, etc.)
and the wanna-be big conferences (ACC, Big12)
and the actually big conferences (Big Ten, SEC)
living in a world where they can all agree on a framework they feels benefits them all.
Given how vastly different all those groups are it's way more likely CFB splinters off into several sub-groups.

This needs to happen. The flood of tears in Lee County and Red Stick would be Biblical. The TigerRant would be internet gold. Yes, this needs to happen.

I think most people are confused by what the NFL commissioner really is.
He does not have ultimate authority.
He's basically a scapegoat for the billionaires who own the teams and pull the strings behind the scene.
Not sure how that works in the college football landscape.

He says Nick would be great but it’s not possible to have such a position given all the governing bodies.

It would have to be someone not affiliated with any SEC or Big Ten school because neither Conference would approve it
Someone like a Bob Costas or similar

With enough time, the idiots may figure out how to get the playoffs corrected......But the NIL stuff has GOT to be fixed. Saban is the about the only person that fits the bill of:
College experience,
Pro experience
Known for his wining management style
Wants to see the college game fixed.
Trusted by enough people to handle the problem.

Actually, he and I don’t see eye to eye on SMU in the playoffs, but I have faith he’d fix the CFP criteria enough that any future team would actually deserve to be in.

Yall thought the REC lost power. Yall thought some UCLA basketball player from 1995 could end Alabama’s reign of terror indefinitely.
This is no more than a CFB equivalent of a Joe Biden presidency. Things had to get bad before people realize they needed Nick and Alabama.

He/you is a raging bama homer. You only said SMU because of your CBS contract.
I’m onto you JP.

Mack Brown would unironically be a great commissioner and is available/still wants to be part of CFB

lol…you do realize that SMU is in the ACC and the ACC is also “owned” by ESPN just like the SEC. You may be confused on a few items here
Edit: and my post history has entirely too much CBB for me to be Pate. That GA boy might know about Bama and the Braves, but he doesn’t know squat about CBB (and definitely wouldn’t be a Bama Bball season ticket holder like myself).

Someone does need to be in charge. If for no other reason than that the refs are absolute dog shite nation wide and it needs to be fixed.

Yes, very aware SMU is in the ACC. Do you know what conference their opponent was in? Hint it’s the one with the TV contract with … CBS
I see you JP.

It'd be fine if they actually had full authority.
The NCAA was fine and actually did have rules that helped moderate the sport, but crybabies kept suing them and going to court for things they felt were unfair and the courts kept siding with the players. Having rules don't matter a lick if you have no way to enforce them. A commissioner would be ok but if they're going to constantly be overruled by the courts then what's the point?
don't even get me started on how utterly fricking stupid it is that federal courts are involved with moderating amateur student athletics.

But that wouldn’t be any different if Penn State had played one of the 3 SEC schools. The argument isn’t about whether Penn State belonged in.
Note: see my CBB evidence added to my previous post for definitive proof Pate and I are not the same (although we’ve never been seen in the same place together….soooo)

I’ll do it. I’m off on Saturdays.
