Dude there is no way Thomas is the best player from Bama anymore
Derrick Thomas:
27 sacks in a single season (still NCAA record)
52 sacks in a career
39 TFL in 1988
7 TFL in a single game (vs Texas A&M in 1988)
Member College Football HoF
Member Pro Football HoF
9-time Pro Bowler
#3 in NFL fumble return for TD list
#4 in NFL safety list
Butkus Award winner
Interesting tidbit:
The Top 5 draft from when Thomas went into the NFL:
#1 Troy Aikman
#2 Tony Mandarich
#3 Barry Sanders
#4 Derrick Thomas
#5 Deion Sanders
4 of the top 5 are in the Pro Football HoF.
Green Bay still regrets drafting Tony Mandarich.

He also had 7 sacks in an NFL game. He was amazing no doubt. The OP said college career and Julio was the best WR in college football for 3 years. Imagine if he had a decent qb throwing to him and not The Ginger Herbstriet. He's a ungodly athlete that we may never see a player comparable at Bama ever again. If NFL career is included it would have to be Hannah. I doubt anyone could ever take that mantle. He's considered by some to be the best NFL player of all time.

Poor Mandarich. My dad still has a Sports Illustrated with him on the cover. Too much hype.

a lot of people don't realize how good of a football player Steve Spurrier was. Florida was a nobody when he arrived on campus; had to sit out his freshman year (everyone had to) and then began to completely change florida football.
then he did it there as a coach!
he really was an amazing player and coach. he could come up with some "gems" for the press too. I used to "hate" the guy.

Spurrier is the reason schools get a Heisman trophy to display.

How so?

He gave his Heisman to the school to display (since we obviously didn't have much else at the time). So the Downtown Athletic Club started giving a copy to a winner's school.

Ah ok. That's pretty cool.

McFadden should have won the Heisman in 07 imo. The guy was incredible.
I agree, but not winning over Troy Smith in '06 was more egregious.

Elmendorf isn't even in the top 5 safeties to ever play for A&M.
Well, in his defense he did quite a bit more than play safety, but 2-time AA at center field doesn't count. He also returned kicks and occasionally played RB. But he still isn't the greatest. With a gun to my head I'd go with John David Crow.

Players I most enjoyed watching play (or hated what they were doing to my team.
Bama: the Snake. Cocky and confident as hell and backed it up.
Auburn: Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson: both really good players
Tenn Peyton Manning: no offense to the stud D linemen that came through...and there has been some good ones
USC: George Rogers: no doubt. Clowney could have been that good but just wasn't.
Kentucky Jared Lorenzen and Art Still: Lorenzen looked like Andre the Giant playing with midgets. Still took on triple teams all day and beat them.
UF Spurrier: for oh so many reasons. The guy was infuriating and generally right on target with the ball and his lip.
Ole Miss Archie Manning. Probably my all time most admired player.
Lsu Cassanova
Vandy Cutler

I agree on that point but Fournette was a walking highlight reel while at LSU

Are you familiar with Charles Cleveland from Brent, Ala.?
Charles was a few years ahead of me at Bibb County High School. Outstanding athlete in every sport, with terrible misfortunes with the 76ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I saw him effortlessly hit seven jumpers in a row from the time line in a high school playoff game. In any offense except CM's he would have led the NCAA in scoring. Hell, for that matter, he was an incredible baseball player.

Lol. Tyrann mathieu for LSU? Really?
As good of a player he was/is, he isn't the best player to ever play at LSU. He's top 10 no doubt, but the best? No way.
You serious?
Tyrann Mathieu might be the best pure football player to ever put on an LSU uniform.
Go back and look at highlights, he singlehandedly changed a ton of games.
He was incredible.

He was great for 2 seasons, but his sophomore year was phenomenal. As a freshman, he led the SEC in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries and was freshman All-SEC. He was also incredible in the bowl win and was named defensive MVP.
Tyrann is the best football player for LSU IMO.
He was fuggin incredible.

I’d put Patrick Willis over Eli. I don’t think we’ll ever see anyone move sideline to sideline the way Willis did. Was unreal.
For MSU it is probably DD Lewis. There was a reason the Bear called him the best linebacker he’d ever seen.
