If he leaves he owes Auburn 60% of NIL back and Auburn is gonna hold him to it

NIL will level out slowly as time progresses.. I hope?

There has to be some buyout to hold the players accountable.
Arkansas is going after Nico's little brother now and I don't blame them.

Bruce Pearl has been so supportive of this guy and this is how he is repaid.
Get as much as you can.

Bruce Pearl is as much a player's coach as one can be. He puts up with a lot of antics from his players, see both KD and CBM. He makes it work because he knows there's a fine line.
I'm willing to be there aren't many NIL foundations out there willing to even pay CBM as much as Auburn was. Not only that, how many will put up with him on and off the field? How many will cover the buyout if CBM can't, plus pay him additional NIL?

I can’t believe there would be drama surrounding Chad Baker-Mazara.

I can’t believe a Bama fan would pass up an opportunity to obsess over Auburn.

Of course there are clawbacks in these NIL agreements. These are multi-million dollar agreements. The young and dumb are only paying attention to the dollar amounts and have failed to read the fine print.
To me this is an example of players not paying attention to what they signed up for. It’s not predatory on behalf of a collective, it’s big business and they’re essentially professional athletes. Time for them to man up.

Speaking of time, it’s time CBM moves on from college. Dude will be 26 come tournament time. The more and more I see straight MEN playing against kids makes this whole setup untenable. When you’re that old if you can’t make the NBA it’s time to try playing in Europe.

I don’t disagree. Several years ago, Auburn had to play an extremely experienced Miami team in the tournament - they made it to the Final Four that year with mostly 24-26y olds. They completely dismantled us (even though we were SEC champs and had Jabari Smith and Walker Kessler on the team).

I know, right?
Never thought a player with the maturity and intelligence of Chad Maker-Bazaar would do something this ungrateful.

When CBM signed his NIL deal, the Pavia lawsuit hadn't happened yet so next year wouldn't have been discussed.

I learned all I needed to know from a tweet that noted Razorback Hater Pat Forde sent out a day or so ago in which he praised the U of A for their stance and their subsequent legal action to hold the athletes accountable. If that guy is posting anything positive about Arkansas, then it's indeed notable.
What that tells me is that schools need not worry about public opinion - it's almost universally on the side of the schools in this scenario. And secondly, the chilling effect it will have on recruits not wanting to go to schools who take this stand is likely a whole lot less significant than feared.

He should've had to pay some back every time he got ejected he would've gone broke

Sounds like it's starting to hit critical mass. Deals have gotten bigger. A couple of years ago, it wasn't nearly as much money and I think collectives were scared of getting a bad rep. Now, you have to get the money back or you can't survive.

I could be mistaken but I thought I had heard he signed a new deal during the final four run.

Well I hope Auburn gets what they want out of this deal, but what if this makes him come back to Auburn? Would he be welcome? Could he be trusted to play for the team and not himself?

quote:CBM is a nut job on the court. By all accounts, he’s a good teammate and not an issue in the locker room. He’s also a very very good basketball player. I don’t fault him for trying to maximize his earnings and would love to have him on the team next season- doubtful he returns though.
