sounds like a headache to be honest. They should do as they normally do and just bend over whenever the SEC says so

Sankey plans to implement a new SEC model for equitably scheduling all 16 teams. Here's a thread discussing various options:

Sources: Big 12 Expected to Add Four New Members By End of Next Week (SI)
quote:
Less than six weeks after Texas and Oklahoma announced their impending departure to the SEC, the league is poised to add four new members in a process that could culminate in one week’s time. UCF, Houston, BYU and Cincinnati are expected to apply for Big 12 membership next week and then could be approved for admission in a meeting of Big 12 presidents Sept. 10, multiple sources tell Sports Illustrated.

Probably: 9 SEC games (4 or 5 at home in alternate years); no divisions or pods; 3 regular opponents (rivals) and rotate the other 12 opponents in 6 schedule slots (playing all 12 twice in 4 years)
I’m a much bigger fan of this than pods. Pods are a terrible idea that just force randoms to play each other every year.

These were definitely the best football members on the board. Do they consider going even bigger? I think it depends on the playoff format.
Regardless adding those four firmly cements the Big XII as closer to the Pac12 and ACC than to the American and Mountain West.
It’ll be interesting to see if the American poaches teams, or if we see the G5 leagues rethink scheduling in an alliance of their own. I know some programs like The Flagship University of Louisiana want more regional leagues.

G5 realignment to make all 5 conferences more regional seems doable if the AAC, CUSA & SBC all want it and cooperate (MAC & MWC already regional). But it seems more likely the AAC (now 8 teams) adds independents Army & Liberty and poaches 2 from 14-team CUSA; e.g., UAB & FAU.

12 always seemed too big a jump to me anyway. Bump it to 6 or 8. Heck, if they leave it at 4 the SEC will get 2-3 teams in most years and they’ll all be fighting for the left over slot or two. This won’t end well for the alliance either way.

I agree. The top-8 teams is enough. Simply add a qtr-final round (played at top-4's home stadiums).

We'd be better off with 12, but all of these small schools that think they're better off have no idea what they're talking about. Everyone's tired of Alabama and Clemson winning, well the 4-team playoff is the cause of it. Having 4 teams gives Alabama and Clemson a chance they wouldn't have otherwise had under the BCS.
Projected BCS matchups (own opinion based on previous trends) would've yielded these BCSNCGs:
2020- Alabama vs Clemson (Alabama)
2019- LSU vs Ohio State (LSU)
2018- Alabama vs Notre Dame (Clemson)
2017- Georgia vs Oklahoma (Alabama)
2016- Alabama vs Clemson (Clemson)
2015- Alabama vs Clemson (Alabama)
2014- Alabama vs Florida State (Ohio State)
Yes, there's a good chance we still end up with a lot of Alabama-Clemson however where in the past either Alabama or Clemson slip up (2017, for instance) and be virtually eliminated, the playoff gave Alabama another chance. The teams that keep making CFP are more experienced in games like this and know how to handle it, instantly giving them an advantage.
It's just going to get worse for everyone else. You'll need to get Clemson to 2 losses and Alabama to 3 to keep them out, and once they're in, we are more experienced and talented than other teams and will probably win the whole thing every year
