Another thread made me think of how many nuetra; site stadiums were used years ago for SEC games. Thought it would be fun to discuss some stadiums in random cities throughout the South that used to host big-time football

To get this started, LSU has played Alabama and Ole Miss a ton of different places over the course of history.

LSU has played Alabama at 16 different locations:
Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge)
State Field (Baton Rouge)
Parade Grounds (Baton Rouge)
Bryant Denny Stadium (Tuscaloosa)
Denny Field (Tuscaloosa)
The Quad (Tuscaloosa)
Legion Field (Birmingham)
Birmingham Fairgrounds (Birmingham)
Rickwood Field (Birmingham)
West End Park (Birmingham)
Cramton Bowl (Montgomery)
Tulane Stadium (New Orleans)
Superdome (New Orleans)
Pelican Stadium (New Orleans)
Ladd–Peebles Stadium (Mobile)
Monroe Park (Mobile)

LSU has played Ole Miss at 13 different venues
Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge)
State Field (Baton Rouge)
Parade Grounds (Baton Rouge)
(Pentagon Field (Baton Rouge)
Vaught-Hemmingway (Oxford)
Tulane Stadium (New Orleans)
State Field (New Orleans)
Athletic Park (New Orleans)
Fairgrounds (Vicksburg)
Gairgrounds (Meridian)
Jackson State Fairgrounds (Jackson)
Municipal Stadium (Jackson)
Mississippi State Veterans Memorial (Jackson)

Auburn and UGA played in Columbus from 1916-1958. They have also played neutral site games at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, in Macon, Savannah, and Montgomery.

A.J. McClung Memeorial Stadium in Columbus, where Georgia and Auburn played from 1916-1958. I do not know where they played in Macon, Savannah, or Montgomery.

ETA to add Montgomery. Also, I wonder if the transition in the Georgia-Auburn game from neutral side in Columbus to home-and-home coincides with the construction of I-85. I know it was around that time that the interstates were built, and driving between Athens and Auburn would be so long without the interstate, they may have just agreed to meet in a mutually accessible place until a I-85 came along.

I actuall;y found a book that lists literally every stadium every single school has ever played and which schools they played there. Pretty cool

Believe it or not, prior to 1934 we did have an on-campus "stadium" known as Melton Field. There aren't a lot of pics but it doesn't look to be more than a few bleachers.

back in the 1920's-30's Ole Miss would play some home games in Greenville, MS.

Oxford was NOT easy to get to until the middle 1990's.

They would play in Memphis as well. One of my projects at my college job was we had a beta copy of an old game reel and no information about what game it was. Was given access to the video vault and a media guide and told "here you go have at at."

Did about a months worth of research and found out it was Ole Miss vs Vandy in Memphis from like 1936 or so.

Nah, I was spending so much time trying to figure out all the random, no longer existing stadiums and forgot to add the obvious one

98, IIRC. That game wasn't supposed to happen from what I remember. One of the reasons Peyton chose UT was because they weren't scheduled to play Ole Miss during the season. He didn't want that extra attention that was going to come with him playing against his Dad's school.

SEC shuffled the schedule the year before and it created that game.

Think it was before that. I know Peyton was still playing when they last played each other in Memphis

I wish I kept a list of those stadiums OM played at back in those days. It was pretty interesting info and I would love to figure out where they were located and look at the area on modern google maps. Really would love to know where that Memphis stadium was located.

It was 97. I keep forgetting it was Tee Martin that won the Natty and not Manning.

Yeah, I think there are similar themes for several schools. I think UGA hosted a fair number of games in Atlanta back in the day for that reason.

That was supposed to say Middle 1900's but I mean it still wasn't really easy to get to until 1990's. I think that's when they 4-laned hwy 6 and bypassed Pontotoc. Cut off like 20 minutes if you were coming from tupelo with just that bypass.
