However, If Muss kept flirting with every opening, and refused to sign the extension that protects the university in case he leaves, then... Well... It is time to have him make a decision period.
The issue with having him make a decision doesn't carry a lot of weight because EM has all the leverage due to the contract. This is the 2nd contract HY has totally bombed on.
I don't feel confident that even if he has his guy he will know how to structure a contract.

he had a contract on the table, but with a buyout on both sides. Muss wanted no buyout, or very little if he were to leave... but a large amount protecting him.
He refused to sign it.
He refused to sign it.

Buyouts make sense to protect both sides. Wanting to unbalance that is a sure sign you want to leave. When was a coach who wanted to stay that hung up on a buyout. Remember muss joking in former negotiations about his alma mater being his only exemption from buyout? That was a guy staying who didn't care... This sounds like a different negotiation

Reposting what I wrote in another thread about Yurachek.
quote:
I was the first Hunter darksider several years ago because I despised how he basically took 2 years off during the Morris era — one of our darkest we've had in any sport — which struck me as downright cowardly. Funny how he was AWOL for large parts of 2018 and 2019, and then all of sudden is prominently featured in the locker room in any Hogs+ video after any win.
He’s also largely full of shite.
Remember the dumb “real fans” tweet he made after one of Morris’s early embarrassing losses (believe it was Colorado State)?
Remember when he made a bunch of bullshite, hollow remarks about how losing should be justification for firing a coach for cause and not paying his buyout? That comment alone — despite being nothing more than empty fan service — likely turned some prospective candidates away from our coaching search in 2019.
Remember when he said he was going to revolutionize coaching contracts and buyout structures? Oh wait, we now have a shitty, lame duck football coach we can’t fire because of his expensive buyout (which Hunter stupidly gave him after he got worked by his agent). He either wouldn’t or couldn’t fire Pittman, and it was largely due to financial constraints.
Remember how he joined the lobby effort to crusade against NIL? While some sort of governance and/or oversight is something that is needed, the optics of him joining the fight while we’re among the weakest collectives are pretty poor. Our NIL is shite, which falls at his feet.
In this new modern age, an Athletic Director basically has three responsibilities: raise funds, hire good coaches, and operationalize a world-class NIL collective to marry those two things (arm good coaches with funds for good players). Hunter sucks at all 3.

Starting to agree with you about HY.

If HY brings in Beard today

There is a LOT of Beard smoke.

Poor HJ Jr. might melt the entire board if this comes to fruition.

All I’ve heard is “very short search”

Fletcher and Stephen really want Beard up there. Huge NIL boost if Beard is named Head Coach. Central Arkansas not frickin' around.

One thing that seems clear about Musselman from everything I hear is that there’s an expiration date on any job he has. He wears on people, they wear on him. He will win but everyone ages in dog years. Arkansas likely popping champagne today.

I see Wolken, I downvote. Just natural reflex.

Musselman is a California guy.
If I was able to get a job making enough money to comfortably live in the nice areas of SoCal and be insulated from the high cost of living/taxes/homeless/crime, I would. And I am (or at least was) the biggest NWA homer there is.
Beard or Wade or I'm turning my TV off.

I hated this years team and I'm glad the angry midget is gone. Devo playing out of his mind against Kansas made last year seem a lot better than it was too. He shite the bed with top 5 talent last year then followed it up with a shite show season this year.
Muss was a good hire when made and a good release when he left. If HY gets a million dollars for upgrading us with Beard he deserves a raise not a hot seat.

I’m all in on Beard. I can’t get on board with Wade with how fricked up looking he is. We will be even more of a laughing stock to the SEC.
