Thanks. I never heard the story before. Georgia has the coolest logo in the SEC in my opinion, and it takes a lot for my biased eyes to concede that.

Personally, I like the Georgia version with the color scheme

I've always found it weird that a school as big as Georgia wouldnt want their own main logo/brand.
Kind of a high school move to just use a pro football logo you like.
If LSU just used the bengals logo id hate it.

Based on the responses in this thread, I guess I'm in the minority thinking it's the most bland, generic, boring logo in the SEC - maybe in all of college football.

Agreed, but that is a much better logo.

Coach Dooley's first year at Georgia was 1964 and that was the first year he used the Packer-like G. I see where some say the Packers started using the logo in 1961, I would have thought they used it earlier than that. I don't know when Grambling started using it.

My high school used to use the Michigan winged-T helmets except the base was red and the wing T was white. Then we had the original Falcons logo helmets with the base red and the falcon sky blue. Then they cracked down on HS's using trademarked logos I believe and they went with something really lame which was just part of the school's name written across the helmet in some font.

Actually yes that is another iconic Logo. You know who it represents as soon as you see it. Love the old school Tiger head.

So they copied it from green bay.

I am not aware of Georgia having used any helmet logo other than the traditional oval "G", and the earlier block "G" that was used during the 1962 season, during the period covered by this site (1960 to present). I believe this is one of the few teams for which the set of historical helmets represented at this site is complete.
*1 The red "G" logo was not used during all games in 1962. It is visible in photographs from games against Florida State and an unknown team in plain white helmets, but is not seen in photos from the Clemson and Florida games.
*2 This helmet design was apparently used by Georgia only during its appearance in the 1991 Independence Bowl against Arkansas.
*3 Black helmets were worn during the 2009 game against Florida played in Jacksonville, FL.
*4 The white stripe on the "2001 - present" helmet is slightly wider than that used in 1995 and earlier; I did not think the difference was great enough to warrant a seperate helmet image here.

Wait...you think the bengals logo is better?

I think UGA should break out the silver throwback helmets, although I suppose they would look very similar to tOSU. Maybe throw the G logo on there (even though not historically accurate) to differentiate

I have absolutely no idea, to be honest.
I've ehard people claim Green Bay did, and I have heard that the basic shape was GB's, but Georgia added something to it. (What, I don't know, either.) I'm a plethora of information, aren't I?
I think Griffin High School in Georgia uses the GB logo verbatim.
Griffin has had tons of NFL players go through their school including:
Willie Gault
Alton Montgomery
Jesse Tuggle
Jeff Jackson
Chris Clemons
Ben Talley
Randy Baldwin
Freddie Gilbert
and 5-6 others.
