Louisiana has the best most refined and unique culture in the usa, much less the sec...and that includes food.
The rest of the State is "Mediocrity Acceptance" personified at its finest. (And I'm from the Mediocrity State)

I hate the white bbq sauce, but that place makes a damn good brisket.

Mustard based is the only way. Ketchup on a pig is just despicable.

We've had the BBQ debate a couple of times, and I still hold BBQ is more regional than state-centric. However, I saw these couple of articles I thought were interesting rankings.
The first is a ranking of states based on their love/interest for BBQ, no matter the style. write up for each state here
The other blog was a best overall food power ranking (see LINK for each state's write-up):
2. Texas
4. Louisiana
5. Tennessee
12. South Carolina
14. Georgia
19. Missouri
20. Florida
22. Alabama
23. Mississippi
29. Kentucky
31. Arkansas
In any case from the OP to these rankings, neither best BBQ nor best food rankings will look like 2018 final football rankings.

St Louis is one of the worst "BBQ" towns there is.
They grill shite and slap BBQ sauce on it and call it BBQ.
This and it's shitty uber-sweet bbq sauce like Georgia's sweet sauces. Now, most Georgia places have a good pepper sauce.

Nice graphic but Oklahoma's bbq is utter shite -- surprising since it's close to Texas Daddy BBQ. Oklahomans take pride in NOT smoking their bbq and NOT having rings and that shite. Don't understand it. For a strip mall bbq, Billy Sims ok though.

The white goes on chicken -- not pig though there are some folks who do that shite. And I'll be the first to admit, I thought it was weird too. You try it 2-3 times and you'll get hooked.

Ya there is a New Orleans festival called bugs and brew - I think the mudbugs thing may be a Louisiana thing. Hadn't heard it before I moved here

Kansas City has the best all around BBQ. Kansas City BBQs every meat and has many types of BBQ. Some of it, like Arthur Bryant's vinegar based, are terrible imo.
These other areas have their speciality, like Brisket, or pulled pork, etc. But KC does so much more with so much variety that it makes it the best overall place.
If we are being completely honest, if you just learn how to BBQ proper you can make your BBQ better tasting than every BBQ place anyways. The only reason to eat at a BBQ restaurant is because you are too lazy to make it yourself.

Aggies thinking they can BBQ is cute.
Aggies thinking they will win everything in Football is even cuter.
Aggies still believe in the Tooth Fairy and Canada Claus too.

Man, the offseason BBQ thread........
For beef, Texas style BBQ is great.
For pork, I'll go with Memphis style BBQ though.
This is what the rest of the US doesn't understand about BBQ, and why Texas is the greatest. We've stolen all your pork styles, and you've never been able to steal how to do a brisket properly. The BBQ culture in Texas is just superior. Go to Franklin and get some pork ribs, they are amazing. Go to Truth and get the beef rib. Go to Cattleack and get the brisket. It's just all so superior to anything you'll get in Dixie or the rest of the South, I genuinely feel bad for y'all.

Pretty fair list.
I’m obviously partial, but MS bbq is definitely underrated.
Leatha’s BBQ in Hburg is so fricking good. And I’ve lived in KC for a year, was obviously close to Memphis during my time in Oxford, and have three sets of family in TX. They aren’t all apples to apples, of course. That’s one of the many things I love about BBQ in general, all the different types and tastes. Will say I’m not a huge fan of Alabama white sauce. No thanks.
And to my New Albany boys on here - Westside Grill

From Big Bob's website.
quote:
mayonnaise-based sauce may sound off-putting—until you try it. The tangy flavor is kind of like ranch dressing, and just as dangerously addictive. It's also every bit as versatile: Big Bob's recommends pouring it on chicken, pork, seafood and turkey, and using it as the secret ingredient in homemade cole slaw and potato salad.
quote:
And if you answered "white sauce," we could probably pinpoint your hometown—or, at least, the BBQ joint you ate at during that one road trip and couldn't get out of your head ever since. Decatur, AL, has a population of less than 56,000, and its known as the birthplace of Alabama White Sauce. Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q is credited with inventing the peppery, mayo-based condiment, which the restaurant first slathered on pork and chicken at weekend cookouts in the late 1920s
