It had and always will baffle mtr that a school like Alabama cannot find a decent kicker. From recruiting or transfers or even walk ons, it seems like everyone simply cannot get the job done.

I know the pressure of being a football player for Alabama is strong and expectations are high. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

SEC recruiting rankings: Alabama leads heading into National Signing Day (al.com)

quote:

With National Signing Day nine days away, seven of the top 15 spots in the 247Sports Composite national team rankings are occupied by teams from the SEC.

It's been another strong recruiting cycle for the SEC — not just for Nick Saban and Kirby Smart but also for other coaches like Jimbo Fisher, Ed Orgeron, Gus Malzahn and Dan Mullen.

Only two SEC recruiting classes are ranked outside of the top 25 nationally and only one is outside of the top 35.

Here's a look at how each SEC team's class currently stacks up within the conference:

I think Saban should let the kicker smoke at halftime like Stallings did Proctor.

A 71% career FG average and 11/19 his senior year is hardly clutch. Hell, Cade Foster was better than that in 2013; he went 12/17.

Nothing against Proctor, but his kicking abilities have been greatly exagerated as the years have rolled on.

Made the ones that counted for the most part. What was he the other years? Didn’t shank XPs either

Proctor, Doyle , Tiffin and Griffith senior year bout the only ones o had faith in besides Shelley on 30 yarders

Absofrickinglutely

Proctor only missed one XP in his career. Those were the days...

For his career, he went:
1992 - 19/27 70.4%
1993 - 22/29 75.9%
1994 - 13/16 81.3%
1995 - 11/19 57.9%

Overall, he was pretty average and was just plain bad in '95.

Man, I miss the days of Shelly being automatic inside 40 yards.

Doyle, in my opinion, is the best kicker we've ever had. He liked to hit people too so that makes me like him even more

Another thing about Doyle - that was during the time of the transition to the turf - no more block to kick off of!
