The complete lack of interest in this thread is laughable.
I like taking a shot here and there at Ole Miss (because they're gross) but it's hard to really give a damn about them when their best effort at cheating Yielded 3-straight losses to Fatbert.

That pretty well sums it up for most of us. Not to mention that at this point we know the NCAA is going to kick them in the babymakers. The only question is whether the NCAA takes a running start to do so or not.

I don't remember Ole Miss being on probation in 1957. Who was the player?
Here's the link to the NCAA report. I think it was Lance Alworth (who later was kicked off the OM team for getting married then transferred to and starred for the Razorbacks).

It is funny that getting married used to get guys kicked off of college football teams or taken out of consideration for most schools back in the 40's and 50's.

Had a great aunt who worked for Ma Bell for 40+ years, starting in the '40s. She was forbidden to marry if she wanted to keep her job. She did get a lot of stock options though. Crazy times.
ETA: yes, she died a very rich, old spinster

never knew Ole Miss originally signed Alworth.
Alworth was 17 and his bride 15 when they married.

I can confirm what has been said. A friend played at Ole Miss in the early 60s and was booted for getting married.

Next thing he'll be telling us is that he didn't notice anyone on the Ole Miss campus being burned at the stake for witchcraft while he was there,
as if that somehow proves that type of behavior wasn't being practiced in the state of Mississippi in the 50's.

WHEREAS, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED...
This thread with Ole Miss and Freeze needs more religious deep thoughts.

Archie married Olivia on January 21, 1971, a few weeks after the Gator Bowl which was when he was a senior. Big wedding in Philadelphia (MS) which was her hometown. Fellow Rebel Billy Van Devender was the best man.
He met Olivia his junior year, just after his dad died (summer 1969) but they didn't marry until he finished his football career.

quote:Not exactly. They met as Freshmen. Archie's dad committed suicide in the summer between Archie's Sophomore and Junior years. He almost didn't go back to Ole Miss following his dad's death feeling the need to stay home to care for his mom and sister. Mom insisted that he go back and Olivia was instrumental in getting to go back as well. They did grow much closer their Junior year as she helped him through his grief. He had an incredible Junior year.
