Dad's side was from Scotland. They were masons over there, great great great grandfather came to America in 1787 as a teenager penniless and within 10 years was one of the wealthiest men in New Orleans, owning many businesses in the French quarter, a house on canal st, married Zelia Destrehan and became owner of the Destrehan Plantation, and owned a vacation home in Virginia.

A whole bunch of white people, mostly NW Europeans. DNA tests show me as definitively 99% European.

Serious question, do black people trace their ancestry to a specific country in Africa or is the documentation to accurately do so just not exist?
Always seems black people are just "African" rather than South African, Kenyan, Nigerian, etc. While white people are never referred to as European but rather Italian, French, English, German, etc

Here is the map for the paternal lineage for my dad, first one is a 25 marker relation, red is closer, orange second, yellow third. Most being in Ireland, Scotland, England area which matches up with my last name. Two of those reds, one in Ireland and one in Scotland have the same last name as me.
The second map is the migration through history

A very select few can trace their lineage to the exact country, but, yeah, for the majority there's just no documentation to know for sure. Hence, the generic "African," nomenclature.

Maybe not by names, but DNA can pinpoint the area of probable origin. This is a "deep search" whereas genealogy is recent and not 100% reliable for anyone.

Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France, and Spain mostly.

All my white folks who say otherwise in their history are full of shite. Because this is what the world knows to be true.
Seriously though...
Mom's family from England, dad's from Germany.
How long has your family been in Camden Co. I'm from Woodbine. Left there in 1956.

Clan Montgomery is one of the oldest Scottish Clans, and its Chronicles are closely interwoven with Scottish history. The progenitors of this Clan were Norman and came from the Castle of Sainte Foy de Montgomery, near Lissieux, Normandy, France. Roger de Montgomery arrived in England with his kinsman, William the Conqueror, in 1066.

I think that those DNA testing companies claim that trace amounts of ancestry (like your 0.6%) are within the margin of error and may not be completely accurate.

Mom's side is Irish from around Dublin.
Dad's side goes all the way back to Israel and Egypt. They traveled from Israel to Egypt, then Portugal, then Spain, then France. Then over here in the 1600's to Westmoreland County, Virginia.
His side is a mixture of Scottish (Ulster Scots), Native American (Cherokee and Choctaw), and French/Spanish.

I'm at least 2% Neanderthal. As for the rest of my ancestry, I couldn't care less. They're all dead, except for my parents.
