How about we look at how they do against great/equal competition?
I'd love to but it can't be done. Pete played in a Pac-10 where the toughest competition every year was Oregon, yet somehow still managed to lose to the likes of Wash State, Oregon State, Arizona, and Stanford before they were built up and while USC was a 40+ point favorite.
The only contender from that conference during Carroll's time there was USC.
Meanwhile, Saban (to borrow from Gnash Rebel) played in the toughest neighborhood in college football - the SEC West.
While Saban has been at Bama, you've had 4 different teams from the conference win National Titles. From 2009-2015 some team from the state of Alabama has either won the title, played for the title, or been in the playoffs. USC didn't have that type of competition in their own conference, much less their own state.

So when does Pete get his third try in college? Hell, when does he get his second?

Saban 10-12 against year end top 10
It is fairly obvious to non-biased fans Pete is a better coach when the talent level is close to even
If is also fairly obvious Saban is better at keeping his team focused

Talent level close as in top 2 teams in the country?
Since we are talking about two teams that were the best over a period of time it only makes since to compare them to the other best team.
Saban vs Top 2 teams
6-3
Pete vs Top 2 teams
1-1
And that 1 win was against Oklahoma which was vacated.
So when they went up against the VERY best Saban is the clear winner.

Nick Saban. Carroll was really flashy but didn't get near the results that Saban has.

You're gonna continue to see it the way you want to see it. not sure where you got those stats from. I just looked at final BCS standings for their times at their respective schools.
Carroll at USC played 13 teams in 9 years that finished ranked inside the top 10 at end of season. He was 8-5 against those teams - an average of 1.44 such games each year (5 of the 13 matchups were in the bowl game at the end of the season, meaning that he played 8 teams in season that finished in the top 10 during his 9 years at USCw).
During his 9 years at USCw, the Pac-10 had a total of 13 teams finish in the top 10. USC was 7 of those teams, so a total of 6 opponents from that conference in 9 years finished in top 10 at end of season. That, obviously, is less than 1 per year.
Saban at Bama has played 22 games in 9 years against teams that finished in the top 10 at end of season. He's 10-12 in those games - and average of 2.44 such matchups each year (1 more annually than USC faced). 8 of those 22 matchups against top 10 teams for Bama game in Bowl games (including 2 in 2015). This means Saban played 13 teams in 9 years in season that finished ranked in top 10.
During his 9 years at Bama, the SEC has had a total of 26 teams finish in the top 10 (2x what Carroll's Pac-10 had). Bama was 7 of those top 10 teams, so 19 other SEC teams finished in top 10 during Saban's 9 years at Bama (3x as many as what the Pac-10 had when Carroll was there).
Bottom line - a deeper dive tells a more complete story than the narrative you'd like to perpetuate.

Do you really expect an LSU fan to pick Saban?

Nope. Some are very objective, but this one doesn't seem to be.

Not to mention Carroll coincidentally ducking out right before the NCAA hammer hit USC. But he supposedly would've stayed if he had known.

No one hates Alabama more than me, but Colin Cowherd is a douchebag shite stirrer.
The goal is to win football games. Saban did it in an era where the SEC had not just a couple power programs, but has been as deep as it ever has. Saban won with elite defense and dominant run games. Maybe it's not as flashy as USC, but USC won 1 outright title in that time frame versus 4 for Alabama. And they won there's playing a weaker slate of competition.
That being said, frick Bama.

The BCS was not an undisputed title. Not even close.
Arguments like this are utterly absurd. You may not have liked the BCS...so what. The fact is that every single one of the 128 teams in the football bowl subdivison were members of the BCS and by virtue of their membership agreed to be a part of the system that chose to crown its champion in that way. Every. Single. Team

It was a terrible system created by the SEC commissioner. USC had the best team in the country in 2003 and 2008, yet was denied a shot at the BCS title.
Even the President of the United States hated the BCS.
