I actually got a grade 4 AC joint separation due to a freak injury in rugby and had to have surgery I'll play again next year though since i just started working out again, i still advocate rugby for its safety over football anyday

My son has played tackle since he was 5. He's always played within his age/weight range, and it has been very safe. I think parents should become more informed before jumping off the deep end.

Didn't they do a study that said Women's soccer produced more concussions than football?

DON'T frickING PLAY IF YOUR WORRIED ABOUT HEAD INJURIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every kid that plays football has probably watched enough football to realize that it's a dangerous game.

It will, we just probably would not recognize it.

To those suggesting soccer as an alternative, the same concerns are being considered in the soccer world. The United States Soccer Federation outlawed heading for children 10 and under, and limited it for 11-13 year olds recently.
Sports are played with knowledge of the risk of injury. If you don't want to be injured don't play. If you don't want your kid to be injured, don't let them play.

Yeah, I don't ever see it going away. But you may end up seeing a completely different demographic playing it one day. Majority poor, urban or rural, as suburban parents with money steer their kids in other sports. The irony is that sports like lacrosse, hockey, wrestling and soccer lend themselves to head injuries as well. Someone's got a hard on for football, and I think you can guess who is the antagonist. Lawyers, of course. The country has been going to shite for over forty years because of lawyers. Whether it's for a left wing or right wing cause. And one of the unintended consequences of politicizing sports at the HS, college and professional level was litigation over everything imaginable. If they want to throw the baby out with the bath water that's their right. But there will never be enough litigation to suppress society's craving for physical sports, a blood lust, a gladiator-type sport.

Perhaps in the spirit of the ancient Romans we throw lawyers to the lions in a sports arena. I'd pay mucho dinero to watch that.
My reaction to the lawyers in the arena......

I'm like when you sign up to play football you are told day one the risks, and you sign the paperwork and accept the risks. Heck inside the helmet at least back when I played they had a sticker that said "Football may kill and/or maim you, so don't be a Darwin Award Winner and spear someone with this helmet unless you want to drink Campbell's Soup through a straw for the rest of your life."
^fricking this
I can't even begin to remember all the times I heard a coach say, "This isn't a contact sport, it's a violent collision sport". If proper tackling is taught this issue starts to go away.
Does Rugby seem to have this issue? Nope.

Can subject yourself to a concussion at any age.

This is the way I look at it. God forbid you have a drink of grape juice. But a little irreversible brain damage is good for kids, builds character.
