With all the injuries etc, I'd bet money this game will be like all of AUs games

-Auburn will start hot and get up 10+ points in 1st half

-AU will compeltely blow lead in first 2-4 minutes of 2nd half

- AU will get lead back and go up ~5 look promising going into home strtch ~8 minutes left

-An AU player fouls out and at least 2 others pick up 4th foul bringing in white walkons #InjuryDepth

-AU herp derps final minutes to a 8+ point loss

quote:

Chris Silva (#30): 14.2 MPG 6.3 PPG 5.1 RPG 1.2 BPG
6'9 true freshman forward that is very athletic and has a knack for highlight block and dunks. Still very rough but talented enough to play a lot of minutes. Plays with a ton of energy and hard work that can stray into reckless abandon because he is very raw and/or presses too hard. He jumps like he has trampolines in his shoes and snags a lot of boards. A lot of his blocks come from hustling to get back in transition and swatting the ball from behind the opponent.

You could replace his name with Horace Spencer from AU and people would legit agree with the description

Auburn is 7-5 right now, we have held 10+ point leads in 10/12 games

Takes an expert level 2nd half team to blow that many double digit leads

ETA Apology on previous page. Sorry guyz

We'll see how it goes.

This team is better than some are giving credit for being ... but we're still not sure how much better they are this year. There are signs of brilliance, then signs of mediocrity, but they have potential.

What I like about this year's team is the depth ... and they get after it.

Auburn beat Tennessee at home 83-77. Kareem Canty and Brice Johnson (two guards) shot a combined 10-17 from the three, and that was 30 of their combined 40 pts for the game which led the Tigers. Going to be interesting if they can follow up such shooting in consecutive SEC games against a physical solid defense.

Tennessee shot 3-28 (!!!) from the 3-pt line, but otherwise shot 27-51 (52.9%) inside it, and out-rebounded AU 48-37, but a lot of that was due to AU collapsing into the paint and forcing UT to shoot from the perimeter, which UT accepted too lustily. Otherwise UT was in position to win that game. Hopefully with our length we'll do a better job of penetrating and passing into the paint.

If Auburn tries to play that defense against us, we should be familiar with it after playing some teams earlier in the OOC that utilize zone Ds heavily. IMO USC will have more depth than AU tonight so we can handle fouls, but I hope the fouls don't come in machine-gun like fashion like they did against Memphis...

Both AU and UT barely average more ppg than their opponents have and are out-rebounded on average by their opponents. I think our defense will be the best on the floor and we'll win the rebounding and free-throw shooting battles tonight. Auburn has already had 8 foul-outs thus far this season (USC only has 1, and it came just in their last game in that foul-fest of a joke), and with their issues on depth it wouldn't surprise me if they add to that tonight.

We need both Lithuanians to start the game focused and with effort, and the team as a whole to start with energy and intensity. Hopefully Chat can provide upwards of 40 minutes of the 20 minutes of production he provided in the last game. I think Carrera will come very focused to have a good game tonight: I hope he doesn't let his emotions get the better of him and pick up some foolish fouls. USC has a big advantage with it's veteran experience from it's seniors, but they need to be on their A-games tonight, and not get out of control...

I think it will be a close, very physical contest but one which USC pulls away in the 2nd half as Auburn wears down and loses players to the bench....

Canty averages 12PPG from 3PT. Teams have tried double teaming him (he creates his 3pt shot) but if he feels it that night, he rains buckets from NBA+ 3pt if needed. He is a "feeling" type shooter though so he can have off games.

Bryce Brown right now is a traditional spot up shooter. He can make hard 3s but most of his points come off good chances. Brown has the athleticism to get to the hole as well but he prefers to shoot

While UTk shot 3-28 from 3PT, 13/25 misses were offensive rebounds. The poor 3pt shooting didn't play that big a role in TN losing.

Regarding 53% 2PT FG%, most of that was the fantastic play of Kevin Punter. Kevin Punter 2pt% was 69% and the rest of the teams was 41%.

In that specific game of AU vs TN, Auburn was clearly the superior team. Even with a starter going out in the first 10ish minutes and injuries, Auburn was in the lead for about 38/40 minutes

Auburn plays almost exclusively man defense. We don't "focuse on the paint" as you say. Tennessee was shooting solid 3 opportunities just couldn't hit. They got the rebound though so that wasn't what cost them

You should hope they come frequent and often. Auburn only has ~6 scholarship players available for this game.

Auburn shoots like 50% from FT. Forrest Gump could win that battle.
Rebounding we are hit or miss. We should lose it most games but the gap is usually determined by our teams effort & concentration

That would be interesting. We've only not led at half once... and that's when we were tied with Memphis after they hit a buzzer 3.

I don't want it to happen, but it would be interesting to see what would happen.

With that said I keep thinking about you saying how bad of a rebounding team AU is, which is good for us since that's one of our strengths.

I watched the AU-UT game. Part of me is worried about how good they were at the 3. The other part of me is thinking, "good. No one can rely on the 3 for forever. Maybe they'll be too confident into it and shoot an unwise amount of 3s." As they say, teams don't live by the 3, they die by it.

I think the only reason we'd be down 10 at any point in the game is if Auburn just shoots lights out.

We have held double digit leads in the first half i n 10/12 games. Getting then blowing double digit leads is what we do #CloseGames=MoreExcitement

Auburn has some post weapons, both Harris and Bowers have some 20+ point games. They just are inconsistent and no idea what they will provide.

Our 3pt game from Canty and Brown are pretty reliable and can alter games. Hopefully it is on tonight and a good game

Our games are actually starting to be covered by Sportscenter.

The only issue I really had with the game was that there were multiple times when we were up by 10-13 and AU went cold and we had a real chance to blow the doors off the game but could never seem to do it. Whether it was missing a shot or turning the ball back over after an AU turnover.

With that said, it was our first conference game, on the road, and if the worst thing is, "well we were only up by as much as 5 in the 2nd half"... I'll take that any day.

Agreed. The team had an opportunity to run Auburn out, and send all those Auburn students back to metro Atlanta. But they never seemed to capitalize on it.

100% this. With as much trouble as the program has had since Odom left, and as often as we've struggled with Auburn in particular, perspective is definitely important.

Good win on the road. Now, kill Vandy on Saturday.

Looks like we're really going to need that Vandy win. 'Bama has a few losses, but all of them are against pretty damn good teams. They also have some good wins.

Ole Miss isn't the same without Henderson (obviously) and UT isn't as good as they were a few years ago. But both are on the road and despite UT's 'down' years we still only ended that long streak they had against us last year.

We can, and should, win our first two SEC home games. If we can at least grab 2 of 3 from those away games that would put us in real good shape.

... and then UT crushes UF tonight. It was never even close.

SEC East - it's like a box of chocolates.
